I don't have one, but the only con i can think of is it takes a little more ingenuity to "skin" it. If that's they way you want to go.
Some people like giving it a pretty coat of paint and leaving it nekid.
And the additional cost.
But Dennis at FJW can have a metal stand made for you and the price didn't seem bad.

My next tank will have a metal stand. They look great and they're extremely strong.

I have wood and kick myself every day for not going metal. The only con I could think of is not having an easy way of mounting equipment to the inside. That is easily taken care of by mounting some wood panels to the back. I really REALLY wish I would have went metal. :motz2:

What would the pros be of a metal stand over a wooden stand? It's not like wood isn't strong enough to hold almost anything we can keep in our homes.

For one, less bulk, less supports needed. More room for STUFF! :D
Assuming of course we are talking about the typical 2x4 home build.

Yep. There is a lot more accessibility with metal stands. You remove the skin on a metal stand and it's completely open for maintenance.
