Ok, I have just picked up 3 live rocks and about 30 lbs of seeded (in salt water) live sand. I have my tank set up and ready for water. All I have access tonight is Ozarka or tap water. Should I wait and get the water from Wal-Mart tomorrow, or use 10 gallons of water and mix to get the s/w level more than a half inch above my live rock and sand where it now sits?

I got the sand and rock from Eddie (Estone...thanks Eddie) for a discounted price today, and he included enough water to keep everything wet in my 2 ice chests.

Is there any other care I can take? I have air bubbles on one icechest, but not enough water in other to run the power head.

If its all wet and its a new tank, I would wait until tommorrow to add water, it should be fine in the ice chest with an airstone overnight.

Sounds good. I needed the rest anyways. I have been running non stop 300 miles plus, a day, since last saturday, trying to get everything perfect for this tank by this weekend. I am so freakin bushed. 700 plus miles today alone. Went to Austin and back home (5hours round trip) to pick up the tank, and then to Eddies house (4 hrs round trip) to get the sand.

Al, If i recall correctly you mentioned El Campo as your home town. If i'm correct then i might just be around the block from you. I live a little past Ellwood St. If you need some help i might be of some assistance.

On waterquality what your looking for BEFORE you add salt is no other elements. 0 TDS (total dissolved solids). Depending on your source water and your RO/DI I personally am ok with anything under 7 TDS. DIstilled water should be 0. You want pure water. The salt contains all (or most depending on the salt) of the trace elements that you need.

Thats right. You live out by kimbo's and the hot rod 57 stingray drag vette. Gimmy a call. Maybe I can swing by and take a look at your setup. Where do you get your water? The readings 2 posts up are from our city water. I got it from the water waste plant.

Anyways, Call me so we can hook up and talk. I am brand new to this and only know what I have read from outdated books I bought.

You can get a decent RO/DI system for $100-150, which you'll recoup in no time by not having to buy water at the store (and not having to lug home jugs of water every week).

Yeah, we are looking at doing that as soon as the funds become available. I think protine skimmer will be higher on the list tho, and we are still gonna have to wait a few weeks to get that. You know how it is....:)

Al, I have an RO/DI system if you want i could start making some water and start you off right.

You don't have to have a protein skimmer to run a good tank, but you must have a good source of water. Also, even if you do use a protein skimmer, you won't need it for the first 4-6 weeks while you are cycling.

The little blue and white windmill station that are located through out
town. Would be a good source of water.
Used this water for 6 months and tested the the water several times for
nitrates and phosphates, both were undetectable everytime.

Ebay has some good deals on RO/DI systems.
Bought a 6 stage with a 3gallon pressurized tank for $ 59.00 plus
$30 for shipping.

SARUBJR,
Do you remember which ebay seller you purchased from? That's a great price.
