I plan on settin up my 110g this weekend. I know I need to wash the substrate but since the rock has cycled in previous tanks will it still have a small cycle in the new tank.

Reason Im asking is I feel real bad that I have my fish in 37g while in the process of getting things ready for the 110. Also I will not have any live rock in the 37g since it will be in the 110g

If it does not have a cycle how long would you wait before you put the livestock in the tank.

Thanks

Take your time and make sure your tank doesnt go into a small cycle. Check your Amm/Nit/Nitrate lvls like you would normally. Don't worry about your fish holding a grudge against you. Just do reg. water changes on the 37g till your 110g is ready. Best rule to remember in this hobby is their are no shortcuts.

If your rinseing the sand and it was live this would only cause a larger cycle.

I would let the tank sit for awhile to make sure everything is stable........wouldn't want to risk it.

The 'cycle' could be dependent on the intial load, and subsequent 'load' changes.. depending on your bio-load and it's increase on the larger tank.

Personaly, presuming not a large # of livestock.. I'd add the 'new' water sufficient to approx 70 gallons or so, add the rock and some water from the established tank. Watch the levels, then move the critters and remaining water from there if things stay stable.

note: I'm an It/Mc geek... read at your own risk. :)

Thanks guys for your input.

I decided to add water/salt, substrate in the 110 and let my fish stay in the 37g w/o any live rock so the 110 can cycle if it needs to. I plan on doing 30% water changes since the 37 wont have any live rock.

I am guessing I will wait atleast 4 weeks and check the params.
