I just overnighted some supplies. I think I’ll get at least 10 gallons of gas for the Generator. I also have 60 pounds of Propane ready. Should only be a 2 day event, but planning ahead might save your reef. Never know what could happen.

It's not if you lose power in Houston, it's when. After the winter storm a few years ago, I don't know how much sympathy I have for people that have been in the hobby a while and still watch their stuff die. Actually, I don't have any sympathy for them. I just have anger for not planning for what was 100% guaranteed to happen again in the future.

I’m getting all my stuff ready now. When I was a Buc-ee’s getting some gas, several other guys already there filling up gas cans. My wife said H-E-B is already blowing up. People panic shopping.

Yeah I was afraid of that. I was thinking about buying a few extra things at HEB today but ended up not going. I'm fine to survive next week if everything did shut down, I just might run out of booze. Unacceptable!

It does if it's served in a plastic bag, baby!

Also, I'm a beer drinker through and through. Even when I'm not drinking, I enjoy a few NA beers in the evening. I just like the flavor of beer.

Speaking of plastic bags…I just taped off my glass patio doors with 2 mil plastic. It’s already much warmer here on the sofa. That should help keep the colder air out and lock in some heat for longer if the power is cut.

After I did it and got looking at it…I should have just bought some insulation foam at Lowe’s and cut them to size for all the windows and these patio doors. My bedroom has it (night worker) and it stays toasty in there, but I have 4 other windows in the living room it would be nice to have it on. Then… each winter storm I could pull them out and insulate.

For those of you in newer home builds, double pane windows will probably come in very handy on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. That’s essentially the same thing. Should keep the house toasty. If you lock in the heat and prevent the cold air from coming in, keeping the tank at temp or alive in a long even will be much easier.

ya good luck you guys. probably a good idea to cover your tropical outdoor plants as well. I see it might go down to 23 f in your parts. I bring my palm in when it hits around 26f.

I have a little kit of insulation board I cut that I can use masking tape to keep in place on my outdoor cat house. That and the heat lamp kept the house at about 40 warmer inside than the exterior temp the last couple freezes. Our cat comes inside for freezes, but there’s a neighborhood tomcat that stays there when it’s cold. Works really well!

Always good to test! I’m jealous of all you guys that have transfer switches.
I did my testing a few days ago while it was still warm. A battery charge and swapped spark plug later, she's purring like a very large, very loud kitten! I need to be better about running it more regularly though. I think switching it to NG spoiled me a little because I know the carburetor won't gel up like a gas one will.

Yes, we do need an update on the generator at your house. Let’s see it!
The update is that the sprinkler heads hit the shed I made and has caused a little rotting on one of the bottom corners haha

I had one instanlled, in addition to the NG quick connect. I have to manually hook everything up (takes maybe 30 minutes if I'm taking my time) so it's not automatic like a generac. Having said that, my whole setup, including the cost to make the shed, was under $2,500. Great compromise, if you ask me.

Not that hard to wire in. Biggest pain is checking to see if you need permits and all that jazz depending where you live. Fortunately for me non needed so did it myself...and while i was in there added a subpannel lol...good times
