Hi Gang,

I moved my 30" cube reeftank this weekend and it went off smoothly (whew!). Good thing I was only moving a block or so and I had some good friends (original #reefs members from long way back) to help.

Here are a few pix:

Everything in tubs.

A good chance to scrape the glass:

Add new sand with some seasoned sand on top:

Add the liverock back (with anemone):

Run those particulate filters!

Hey James, the reef looks great. I wondered in the 3rd pic if that was See Loong and as the 4th pic loaded I see it is. Glad the move went well for you.

You and I may need to start our own reef club----I also have a 30 cube reef. Enjoy the heck out of it. Have a Aquafuge 18 on the back and 175 10K MH and 2 x 32 03 PC's on it. Got alot of softies and a couple of hard corals in it. Only one fish----a algae blenny. Lots of crabs and shrimp.

Perfect size and shape for a small reef.

It makes a great anemone tank for my Ritteri. Lighting is one 400w MH and 2 PC actinics.

I love my cube! Everything fits in the stand and the hood for a very clean setup.

Good to see some one else with a PVC elbow for a overflow. They are quiet efficient and take up little space.

Yep, that is Seeloong (who I met at WMC in 1998) and Nico (online friend who used to live overseas, now lives in Houston, also a reefs.org op), and Guillaume (reefs.org webmaster). A real "powerhouse" of reefkeeping muscle...:)

Ditto tcarlson - I have tried to streamline my tank to the max. I've been keeping reeftanks for over a decade and have learned everything the hard way. If the tank isn't easy to maintain and failsafe, it won't get cleaned, or it will crash when I'm out of town... Thanks for the kind words!

Good to see Seeloong and Nico out and about. Tell Nico I said hello!
Tank looks great, now I suppose you need frags!!!
Glad to hear all went well, what are you gonna put in that Her. Mag?
And did Nico get that system running yet?
Cheers

Hmm...I don't know anyone named Reefkreeper - but that's not a very common name...:) I'm guessing we've met and you have a name like Tony or Chris or something...:)

Yes!!!! I am definitely in the market for some frags once my tank gets settled down. Minh brought me a teardrop maxima and if that does well, the tank is ready for frags. I am certainly willing to pay!

Nico is running a freshwater planted tank now until he finds out if he gets transferred.

Cheers

Gigas

Reefcreeper = Gigas = Tony

and it must suck to have friends just drop you off a teardrop as a tester to see if your tank is ready..........
Thats like using a black tang to cycle a new system :D
Tank looks great, and I may be able to give you a shroom or two
Let me know what your looking for..... and you can PM me....

I also have a 30 cube reef. Enjoy the heck out of it.

I have a 24" acrylic cube which I"m using for a clam tank. I really like it. It is easy to light w/ a single 400W MH. It really needs to be cleaned right now because it has been a few months since I was able to really take care of it. I'm finally getting ready to change the bulb and clean it out to get it looking like it should.

Having a tank that can be viewed on 3 sides makes cleaning a pain! :)

James,

It was good to see you at several of the past meetings.

I was reviewing some of the posts on the site and rediscovered
your tank move postings. Congrats and well done! I was
good to see SeeLoong and Nick were able to help.

The rediscovery generated some questions:

-The tank appears to be drilled at the side, no bottom holes?

-Did the drain pipe make a noise and if so, how did you solve it?
I cant tell if there is a bell at the top. Is there?

-I noticed at least 2 powerheads; do they along with the arrangement
of the pipe(s) provide enough movement?

-What is the name of that huge, gorgeous anemone?

and finally

-What are the particulate filters used in the pic on your site?

Hi Stuart, good to hear from you too. I won't be able to make tonight's meeting because I have to finish my presentations for Seaspace. Say hello to Mike for me and I'd appreciate an update on the Tesselated Blenny project if there is one.

No holes in the bottom of my tank. I have 2 in the back only. I use strainers and upward facing 90's on the bulkheads. I don't use a big return pump, so they are pretty quiet.

The big anemone is a Ritteri (H. magnifica) that I have had for a few years.

I use 2 external powerheads for water movement in the tank. They are not shown. What is shown are 2 Tunze pumps with strainers which Nico generously loaned to me for the tank move. They helped remove all the sand-dust, etc.

Cheers

James,

I hope your presentation goes well.

On the blenny project, no one has heard from Mike Redman since the meeting where he proposed the idea. Frankly, I'm not surprised.

We talked to some of the people he said would be leading the research and they had not even been talked to and knew nothing about the project.

My guess is that is was all a show for some reason. That's the part I can't figure out is what Mike had to gain. But i'm sure there was some reason.

Anyway, I think it is officially dead now.

Bummer to hear that Brad. I still intend to go out and catch some and have a friend with a 35' Bertram who is game too. Conditions are finally getting good enough to dive the Gulf so hopefully it will be sometimes this month. Doug Weaver, the fish biologist for the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary has also agreed to help w/ the project and he's coming along too. Eric B. said he's coming, but you know how he is...

Cheers
