One of my ballast went out on my retro t-5's. So I replaced both ballast with my spare 660 and it is like day and night.

Yep, it overdrives the bulbs. Oncreases the light but decreases the lifespan on the bulbs.

Depends on who you ask :)

According to Andy at IceCap:
Despite overdriving the 54-watt lamps to 80 - 85-watt per lamp output, the lamps are still good for reef use for up to two years.

Others have reported it shortening the life to 1 year.
