Recently (6 weeks ago) I purchased a small yellow tang. He went into my 75 gallon tank with no issues. At first the Elibi Angel (6 mos in tank) gave chase and within a couple of hours all was good. They swam by each other for weeks.

Now the Yellow Tang is staying behind the rocks (away from the front of the tank). He will eat a bit as food goes on the backside of the rocks but does not come out aggressively for it as he used to.

I can see the Yellow tang from the side of the tank and he appears fine just staying in the back. I am not positive the Elibi is keeping him back there but I believe he is based on him darting to the back through the rocks on occassion.

What would your recommendation be to get all well again? I feed a few times a day and always put Nori in the tank.

Your idea is a good one. If you find you need something else to help I would add a bit of Selcon to the food. I don't know why but it makes fish go absolutly nuts. It even had my clownfish swimming across a 6 ft tank to attack it. If you decide to use it, make sure you use it as directed on the bottle since too much could add excess nutrients in the water. If you use as directed you'll be fine.

I have had my yellow tang for over 10 years now. He lives with other fish that can be aggressive as well including a medium Domino. Yellow tang never goes to hide except when he wants to find a place to sleep while the lights are out. I think as long as the fish looks healthy and is eating they will get along eventually. If it gets too rough then you will have to find another home for one of them.

I will continue to monitor the situation a bit longer and try putting Selcon on the food. I know he eats (just not out front like he used to). If necessary, I can remove the Elibi Angel for about a week and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks,

I would try that. Remove the Elibi for a few weeks and then reintroduce. I did that recently when adding a new tang. I took my biggest yellow and purple out, knowing they would beat up, if not kill, the new guy. Put them back after about 3 weeks once the new guy got comfortable. I was surprised how much the balance of power changed in that short time. The big guys were no longer the kings like they were before I took them out. The new guy is the least picked on now.
