Thanks guys! taking real slow, no corals other than the gorg's yet. got some hair algae after testing the systems nutrient export capabilities, so once i clear that up i will decide what type of corals i want, still undecided.
options:
SPS
SPS/LPS
softie and encrusting sps, like sunset monti etc.
or macro algae display.
and finally
macro algae/sps.

i added a urchin, yellow tang and blenny along with water changes and phosphate remover in a reactor. between the tang and the blenny, they did a number on the hair algae.
i also had display macro algae that is all but gone thanks to the yellow tang.
now i have red slime because i started a mini cycle by adding a 4 inch sand bed and dead rock to the fuge area of my sump, i would use red slime x however my skimmer is down for the count until i purchase a new expensive in my opinion, impeller replacement.

my pictures makes it look like everything is going great, but what no one see's is the crap going on behind the scenes like along with the skimmer impeller busting, one of my power heads (hydor) starting spinning backwards, i contacted hydor and they are sending me some replacement parts. you see, if your evo's have the backward spinning issue it is due to one of three things.
from hydor's site:
[h=3]Why is my Koralia Evolution running in reverse?[/h]
There are several possible causes of reversal in the Koralia Evolution.

  1. The bushing that sits inside the black wing of the impeller may have slipped down. If this has occured, simply push the bushing back into place. You can also contact Hydor USA Customer Service and request an upgraded bushing that snaps into place, preventing slippage.
  2. The front cover maybe damaged. If your cover is damaged, you can contact Hydor USA Customer Service and request a new cover.
  3. The rubber bumper on the inside of the front cover maybe missing or damaged. Hydor USA Customer Service can supply you with replacement parts.

oh, another thing, i added a filter sock and a mp40 (thanks to brian at 3cc) over the weekend, i have the mp40 set to short pulse to help lift detritus from the rocks and sand.
nutrient export is to strong for this tank size, so i run that for a short time and go back to short pulse.

Are the yellow branching gorgs photosynthetic? I've always seen a lot of dead/dying ones lying around in peoples' tanks so I just assumed they were NPS lol. Yours looks great.

No, they are nps. But I have been lucky with this one so far, guess it likes the heavy flow and my dirty tank.
