This is open to everyone's remarks but aimed at Reefalot since I got it from him. I got some pulsing Xenia from Reefalot a while back and once I put it in my tank it stopped pulsing. I figured that it would straighten itself out so I left it alone. Needless to say it never did pulse again so I took my water to get tested yesterday and it read good except for PH, which was about 8.0. Did a 6 gallon water change ( it's a 20 gallon tank ) and added some Sea Buffer pH buffer (really old product- probably a really bad idea.) and this afternoon my open brain isn't as swollen as usual and there was some white stringy stuff around the edges. But I digress, well I unplugged my main powerhead which was a little turbulent for the xenia and it seems to be pulsing, not all but quite a few arms. My question is is it normal for the xenia not to pulse under med-high flow? I would like to have them pulse but do not want to sacrifice the star polyps or mushrooms or candycane.
For what it's worth it's a 20 gallon with a Whisper 4000 WD(hang on back similar to the other Whisper filters) and a cap 180(80gph) just above the bottom of tank, in center which provides more flow than I thought. The main powerhead is a Penguin 1140(330gph) with a homemade jet bar. 65 w of 50/50 PC and ocassionally an extra 15w of AquaSun. Suggestions are really appreciated.
Thanks, and sorry for such a long post.
