Just got home, everything was fine this am when I fed the fish, came home, all SPS pretty much dead. The only surviving 2 pieces looks bleach but no where as bad as the others which are completely white.

Just checked parameters, Alk, PH and Calc all ok. Did not dose anything or have any temp swings that I am aware of.

WTH???

i would first off suggest a large water change, and some carbon. Maybe a lie that dumped something bad? Did yot do anything to the tank this weekend?

have those SPS been healthy or did you notice any issue w/ them lately like STN et..? and have they been in the tank for a while (> 1 month)? If they all healthy then it's strange for them to all die in almost the same time like that while all parameters are normal. The only thing I could think that could cause such a quick die off is a huge swing in temperature, pH or dKh.. Could your temp going up a lot during midday while you are gone? or could those test kits be bad?

I saw this happen over the weekend to someone else. did you do a water change? i heard from a buddy that his water company sent a note stating the water quaility was going to change. need to see if it states the s ame on my bill. checked their site, no note of this. do a water change and have your water tested by your LFs.

I dont think i lot power, the microwave clock is still correct. All the zoas seems to be doing strange as well, but the rhodactis and and fish are happy and hungry along with the dendros. As a matter of a fact, the Dendros are extended more than ever. Most of the sps I have have been in the tank for atleast 6 - 12month, some are survivors from the last hurricane.

I have not done a water change this week or add any supplements. Just the normal feeding cycle. Dropped carbon in last night, not going to do a water change yet.

Also noticed some of my zoas are dead or dying in the main tank, however the frags are fine in the frag tank attached to the main tank.

Hey Timanator,

This happened to me too. I lost power this weekend while I was rearranging the tank. My sps frags were growing and doing well..A Monti cap and a Digi frag...now since power is back on and they are in their new places, they started to bleach out. Bleach out is spread on only those....and my clam died...all others are fine..softies, LPS.. I also have other Montis that are doing fine...I will do water change today and let you guys know what happens....Timanator, are yours doing better?

do you have any leathers, sounds like there could be some allelopathy going on. (chemical warfare) between your corals. Add some carbon and do a major water change. Can you remove them and put them in a different tank.

What a bummer. It seems to me that a lot of these RTN events are pretty random - stuff happens.

Carbon is always a good thing to run - kind of like stomach pumping your tank :-/

Any time corals die, bacteria and other stuff start feeding on the dead tissue though and it just speeds up. Since the bacteria are not in the water column, they are hard to kill - a UV sterilizer won't do it but may help.

Cheers
James

Not looking better yet. Still unsure why everything in the frag tank looks just fine.

LOL, good plug, i am

Sorry to hear about your situation, after reading about yours and fishcrazes recent experiences, i am becoming a little nervous about my own setup
stick to lps and softies like you planned, anyone who is away as much as you are, should not keep sps, i know of another guy who left his tank in his wife's care, and she did the normal top off and feeding, but the calcium reactor depleted, and he lost all of his sps. can you say big bucks down the drain. i'm still trying to figure out how to take a vacation and keep my tanks maintened. too scared of auto top off.
