That is a great article on them and the main reason I stay away from the "Beanie Babies" of corals.

I'll have plenty of time later to buy some when the hype falls away and the price goes from 1000 bucks to 30 bucks.

If you really think about it, if Donnie was thinking business... he did a great job of attracting customers all over Houston because of this. There's other ways of advertising a business than just billboards or commercials. :) Give a consumer what they want to see and they will flock to see the main attraction and better yet, give City Pets a stronger foundation of who they are.

For me, I havent been to a fish store so many times in the past 1-2 months. There was never a desire since the market across Houston was pretty stale showing the usual coral and fish. It was about the online stores, but after the recent livestock donnie has been adding, I havent thought twice about looking online. Everyone always says.. support your local fish store and sure enough it felt like a lot of us were doing so.

exactly. Donnie know to catch on the trend of the hobby and esp. he listens to his customers. I remember telling some lfs owners back then to start carrying blasto/ acans and they said they used to get those corals in the past for cheap prices and nobody wanted them.. Well, it's all about get them the right time :D

yep, i heard the first acan (the one posted for $1000) was essentially stolen while Donnie/ Tom were in L.A. last time. 'Somebody' moved that acan from the $1000 location to the ~$50 mark on the tank for a different coral and told the employee there to bag it up for ~$50 and Donnie's mom was at the counter but she didn't know the value of the acan either! And Donnie's mom said that lady was a regular customer and she's on Marsh too  So watch out if you see a big acan lord from somebody tank on the tank tour :D

Wonder if she has been back in the store since then? Do they know if she actually moved it or was it an employee who might have moved it around the tank for some reason?

It's too bad someone would do that, but Citypets either should put prices on all of their corals or hire someone that knows the prices of their own corals. I know Donnie is not there all of the time.

t0mmy should work the morning shift! ;) Next thing you know, the tanks with the high priced corals will have a cage around them locked up like a jewelry store. ;) Well I know the other big acan Naka has now so you cant blame him. :)

Well it is a shame someone would want one of the "beanie babies" that bad. I hate thieves with a passion.

If that person has the nerve to come back and shop, I hope your Mom reconizes them and refuses service. Maybe snap a quick picture and put it up on the display tank saying "This person no longer allowed here due to thievery."

Wow, there aren't too many female MARSHians.

It begs the question though: how would Donnie's mom, who can't identify $1000 corals, know the alleged female thief is a MARSHian?

No offense meant, it just seems very odd to be able to ID someone as a MARSHian.

How would somebody be able to get the acan out of the little tank and climb the ladder to put it in the tall tank without being noticed? Everytime I've been in there, it's very busy.

I would LOVE to hear a description of the Female MARSHian Acan Thief. Blonde, brunette, fat, skinny, tall, short, glasses/no glasses, short hair, long hair, alone/with someone?

Maybe the person who bought it never moved it to begin with (but probably did). Plus I think they meant the coral was just moved in the small tank to a spot where a $50 tag was marked on the glass. They usually have quite a few things in that tank for sale.

I think the employee who bagged it up has to take some of the blame. Every employee should have been able to identify that coral...especially with a price tag of $1000.

Ohhhhh, that makes more sense.

Still seems odd to have something that expensive in a place where it can be snatched. I remember reading some years ago about some super-rare black teardrop maxima being stolen from a well-known LFS somewhere up north.

Seems to me that a store that has $1000 birds and $1000 coral would have a security system with cameras in place. I don't mean any offense....but those are some mighty expensive items in a mighty busy store. I feel badly that they were stolen from, and hope karma bites the thief in the *********.

yeah, the acan was in the small, shallow tank.. and I have seen customers (incl. myself :D ) stick their hands in that tank, like to bring the corals up closer to look or inspect, etc.. or some kids just stick their hands to touch the clams..

Donnie said he thought of that specific customer based on his mom's description. She only knew her as a regular customer, but Donnie knew she's on marsh too, but he didn't know her name. He wasn't on this website much back then to know the specific screen name. And I guess she never came back that why Donnie asked us to look for her for him :D

I think that person must be an experienced (and online) reefer to know the value of that acan lord to pay $50+ for that piece since it wasn't fully color up yet.. still kind of fade/dark red. I thought the red and red/green blasto in that same tank look much nicer :D A newbie or inexperienced reefer - IMO - would rather spend that $50 on a bunch of 'nicer' corals in that tank like green start polyps, yellow flower pot, bright green maze brain, or florescent green mushrooms .. or at least a red blasto :)

I would let it slide. You dont want to accuse a customer if it wasnt his/her fault if that wasnt true. But then again, if she was buying an Acan, she knew what she was getting.

Donnie and his mom got to be sure on this one because guessing who the lady was and did she move the coral already a bad move and to say she's a MASHian too. This could easily give both CP and MARSH bad publicity. Just an opion

Kenny,

I don't think he meant bad thing about Marshians; it's just that he think he know that person and she's on marsh before.. And even if she's really a Marshian, that doesn't mean all Marshians are bad or gives bad publicity for Marsh. This is an online club and there's all kinds of people get on this website. For example, many of us knew of a Marshian here that used to 'burn' LFS in Houston (including yours  ) with 'hot' checks! and he used to be very active too - making nametags for members at fragswaps, etc..
