Anyone keeping these? I've had a colony a month and it's doing well, but I know they can be problematic. It's my first one....I have some intense lighting, and I have it in my lowest par value area, about 150 par with LEDs only and when halides are on its about 300. Anyone who has experience with these guys I'd love to hear your experience.....

thanks!

Paul

I'll play.
I had for years a super nice rock full of rics, most ppl in Houston remember that bridge rock.
It started out as just six from the BAMF GB we did in 2011 I believe.
Well from 6 came 60  and from 60 came close to 200 :faint:
When I quit the ZEO drugs it went down hill pretty fast but only my rics everything else grew faster better and more colorful but the rics  are back to just six.
Couldn't figure out why, even my monthly Triton test was pointing into a blackhole.
As for know I blamed :censored: my Bandit :hungry:, his contract raised just by another $400 if that's the case :thumb:

Thanks diesel. Do these things prefer water that is a bit "dirty"? Right now my PO4 is 0 and nitrates about 1.5-2.5. Hanna ulr for phosphate and salifert/Red Sea for no3. I know the No3 needs to come down a bit before SPS are added, just trying to figure out if I can keep the two together......I might of made a mistake if they like "dirty" water.....

I really didn't see any negative effects on a Po4 so called 0.0 or elevated up to 0.1.
As long your No3 is at point between 2 and 3

Thanks! From what I understand, is the current thinking just a little No3 is desireable? I'm going to run a mixed reef. Two hammers and the Ricordia are all that are in there now. Plan is SPS dominated. I've read differing opinions...running carbon and GFO, and dosed Vodka for 3 days after cycling to knock down No3 and PO4. Big water change. Pretty stable and looking good so far but it's early.....

My son has some in his tank. They used to be down low and they survived in ultra clean water, but they were moved higher in his tank about top 1/3 but on the side of a rock. They love a little nitrate love. Like Diesel said. He now has 4 with one splitting. They are spreading out.

Thanks! I thought they might like a little nitrate. They are interesting creatures. I'm shooting for 1-2 ppm. Try and keep it there unless others get irritated....I took about a three year break and am amazed how the technology and knowledge keeps pushing forward in this hobby.

Thanks!

So far I haven't had anything that doesn't like nitrates. Sps love it and color up with it, lps crave it and puff up with it, my zoas thrive on it and have never opened up more.

Thanks! I'm shooting to keep them very low but not 0.

Diesel has been instrumental in turning my tank around. His advise is golden. It's not the only way to do things but it is a successful way.

Diesel is solid....There are several solid Guys/gals here and it's friendly. That makes it nice. Many ways to run these tanks, just like you said....

I had a nice colony of green yumas for a couple years. They multiplied from 8 to 40+ and were pretty big, and my maroon and gold clown hosted them. Then they all kind of melted away fairly quickly and I have none left. I don't know what happened.

They were in my old tank with about .7 PO4 and around 32 PAR.

While they were doing well, I added a higher-end pink one to the collection. It did not decline when all the green ones died and I still have it, although lately it is not looking quite as good as it used to.
