:gift: Digital Rebel SLR... sweet.

Here's my first attempt a couple of tank shots. These were taken under the VHO acticnics only, the MH's were off.

Here's the small version of pic 1

Now here's a little slice of this photo at 100%, bit of color fringing, but I'm not sure why..

AND another..

and the 100% cross section

and here's a shot I took at home, last night, just to prove the camera is wicked!

oops.. these arent under 600... :)

consequently, I only had time for a couple of tank shots.. and all of them were shot at an insanely small apeture setting, the fore ground to back ground might seem a bit blurred. Those two top exposures were 30" each! but it worked.. lol

they were all shot using a Quantaray 70-300 MM Tele Macro.

The lens is new to me as well, and I have not yet had the chance to try the tank shots with the supplied kit 18 to 55 mm lens, which I'm sure would also take fine photos.

and it's not like im so photographer either.. i know just enough to get in trouble and enough to know I'm really happy with this camera!

im not gloatin but... :bootyshake:

lol, i am of course teasing and about half full of :bs:

This will be a fun camera to explore. I can't wait to take it on the town!

I think one of the coolest things about it thus far, that I have figured out, is that the supplied software will let you make almost any "in camera" adjustment OUT of camera as long as you take the photos in a RAW file.

VERY cool to be able to readjust your exposure, color and whatever you like in the mac or pc AFTER the photo has been taken. Canon did a very very good thing, although I'm sure it's nikon counterpart is just as wonderful a camera!

Very nice. I'd love to move up to a dSLR, but I don't think I'll have the money for it any time soon. Maybe in a couple years. Nice shots. It'll just take a little practice to get your DOF down, then your pics are gonna be awesome.

Just do a search for Canon Digital Rebel. Their are lots of online vendors as well as Circuit City, Best Buy, Comp USA, Ritz Camera and Wolf Camera that all carry these. The Rebel is the entry level (cheapest) D-SLR. The best deal I've found locally is $799 after mail in rebate at Circuit City. I got mine from www.beachcamera.com for $694 after rebate. This includes the camera body as well as a pretty good 18-55mm lens. You can save about another hundred bucks if you get one without a lens - that's OK if you already have a Canon EOS lens, otherwise, you'll want the kit with the lens.

If you want to spend a few hundred bucks more, check out the Nikon D-70. Every review has it as a superior camera; which for the price difference, it should be.

Is there a manual F-stop, shutter speed? Does it have auto/manual focus options? Does it have LCD Pic display? What other SLR features does it offer. The review I read does not go into great detail, but it appears to be pretty much what I have been looking for.

It's just like a Nikon F100 or a Canon Eos, just that it has digital guts and a lcd screen on the back. After you take a photo you can see it on the back and then it writes it to the memory card. You can use all different lenses, etc. I'll bring mine to the next meeting - I have a 14 megapixel Kodak based on the Nikon body.

Cheers

How high have they gone now? I know Canon has a 16 megapixel model.

James, what types of applicaitons require such high megapixels? Is that for professional use?

Well I looked at the floor modle at sears tonight. Although it did not operate due to dead bat's, I got the idea. I love the look and feel, and it is aparent that the photo quality is not bad at all.

I will have one soon.

So who's going to be the first to offer a tank-photography service for those of us that will never buy a thousand-dollar camera?
Great shots :)

I wouldn't want to mess with dealing with cash, but trading a disk full of images of your tank for frags/corals/critters would certainly be doable. I already did this with Nick for some great acrylic brackets for my top off systems.

Hey Rascoe, if you have a little patience, you know they'll be getting a lot cheaper as more come on the market. The Canon Rebel was the first to enter the market at under a thousand and the price on it has already started to drop. Once a couple more sub $1,000 hit the market, you can bet the price will drop some more. Also, if you already have Canon lenses, you can get just the body for about a hundred bucks less. The rebel accepts over 50 Canon lenses.
