I have one zoa frag that is slowly dying. All my other zoa frags have been growing very fast and open up fully. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?

10G tank w/ 96W PC
salinity 1.023
nitrite, ammonia, nitrate = 0
temp = 80
ph= 8.2
lots of snails and one clown fish
i do weekly water changes

that is the only zoa that is dying.

is this a zoa-only tank (besides the snails and clown - i mean the coral-wise).

yes...only zoas in it so far

Not really sure if you have other Zoanthids that are doing well.Maybe it is a bacterial or fungal infection.Do a iodine dip.
1 gallon of SW
1 ml of lugols
5 minutes

swish the colony around to loosen any debris.
Thats all I got except for maybe try a bigger volume of water.

Do you think its best to go ahead and remove the zoa so it wont risk infecting any others just in case?

Just dip them and watch them carefully.I have seen something similar before and it wasnt hard to control.

I think something is eating them. There is a type of snail that eats them-i think it's called a sundial snail. There has been a few reporting of a small sea spider that likes to eat zoanthids. Pepermint shrimp and some crabs have been known to occaionallt eat zoas too. Bacterial Infections usually has a white film and they start getting mushy. I would do an iodine or freshwater dip to kill any parasites, and watch to see if somthing else is harrassing them.
