    Protein skimmer recommendations

I am toying with the idea of upgrading my protein skimmer and wanted to get some opinions on the HUGE selection out there. I currently have a PM ES100 on my 75g tank. If anybody thinks I can do better with this size tank, please let me know.

Looking for a new timer/surge protector

I have a Coralife dual timer strip that I love the set-up on. Problem is one timer broke and the reviews on these show a bad history of timer problems. Does anybody know of any other strips similar to the Coralife?

    Refugium substrate question.

I have had a small refugium that hangs off the back of my sump. I am upgrading to a larger sump and will have a much larger refugium. When I started my small refugium I used Miracle mud. Can I use straight MM with the large refugium or will it overload my tank with the minerals and nutrients...

    New LFS. Humble area

Blue Reef will be the name of the new LFS opening on Aug. 4 in the Humble area. It is located off of 1960 just west of Hwy 59 in the Acadamy strip center next to the new Wings -n- More. Looks like a nice little shop from the outside looking in. Cathy is the name of the owner.

    Coral feeding/nutrition question

When I feed LPS corals like my sun coral or blasto, is the food taken in by each polyp shared with the entire coral? Does each polyp keep the nutrition from its food within that individual polyp? Some polyps are hard to get food to due to their location, or from theft by other tankmates.

    What is this thing?!

I am floating a bag with a new coral, and I see this thing floating around. It looks like an Aptaisia, and I was about to get it out when it started swimming! It moves through the water with a pulsing motion like a jellyfish. It has a small central body, and many "tentacles".

    How long will saltwater keep.

If I mix my saltwater in large batches, and keep it in a sealed container, how long will it keep. It would make things alot easier if I could make up enough water for 2-3 extra changes. Kevin

    What wiring do I need?

What wiring do I need to connect my 250w Icecap ballast to the lighting mogels. Is their a specific gauge I need? Can I just take regular extension cord and strip the ground wire out of it? Their is only 2 wires coming from the ballast, and I know it doesn't matter which +/- wire goes where. But...

    Whats the difference?

I am doing some research and would like to know what the difference is in these two Icecap ballast. They both are listed as 250w MH ballast. Are they identical ballast with different housings, or is their more to them. Also will they run both SE and DE bulb Thanks for the help. Kevin

    Mangrove Questions.

I am looking into adding mangroves to my refugium to assist with nutrient export and had some questions. Do mangroves have to be placed in a substrate, or can the root systems be submersed in only water? Also is their a significant difference in red/black mangroves? Kevin

    Any problems with increasing wattage??

My tank has x2 175w MH's. I am wanting to change over the lighting to 250w MH's. I plan on sticking with the 14K's. A friend of mine says that by doing this I can alter the xooanthelle living in my coral and potentially kill my coral. He also says I will have a severe algae bloom if I do this...

    Anemone "down time"

When a BTA splits, is their a recovery period that it should be given before I attempt to move or handle it. Mine recently split and the new anemone spends most of its time behind a rock in the back of the tank. During the day it will come out a bit, but is pretty shy for the most part. I would...

    RO/DI problem

I changed out my RO membrane, and DI resin. Now the RO/DI line is putting out WAY too much water, and the wastewater line is not flowing. Its seems like the RO membrane is being completely bypassed. The replacement membrane is rated 50gpd just like the old one, and all the lines are connected...

    how to split a RBTA?

I use to have a pretty little RBTA. Now I have pretty LARGE RBTA that is too touchy feely with the corals around it. I have done some research, but always like to get the local opinion as well. Without altering my water parameters, does anybody know any neat tricks to get an anemone to split? Kevin
