you should start with three unis, then if you feel you need the fourth one, then add it.

I thought about 3 but that would put 1 right over my center brace. Do you think 4 may be too much?

ok,

feel like i got something accomplished this weekend. im going to go with the maxspect.

here's info i rec'd:
start of quote
"Chuck,
We just finalized pricing and specs on Friday on the new Mazarra series.
We will be offering pre-orders starting on Monday night/ Tuesday for the P series. The S series are not due to come out until Mid-August. Maxspect keeps pushing back dates on me.
The P series are expected to arrive in the US the first to second week of July.
The pricing of the P series for 3 modules will run $1599.99 shipped.

The S series will retail for $899.99 for a 3 Module version as long as pricing does not change by the time Maxspect releases them."
End of quote

i think the break in price points- 1300 shipped for AI x 2 modules vs 1600 shipped maxspect x 3 modules is small emnough for me to bite the bullet.

this will be for the higher end model with the cree XM-L chipset.

just thought i would share this info.

Confused no longer :)

Joe,

i think ive been patient in letting everything settle out in the LED lighting arena. this is 3rd gen, and i hope theyve brought to the table allot of lessons learned into this product. this is quite a bit of $$ for me to spend, but given my current situation, i think i can justify it in the overall budget :)

allot of good players out there with the technology changing fast. i think it be wise for people to wait for the 50W version...if i had a choice, id prob go with the 50W, just impatient at this point :)

If these are introductory prices I wonder what these units will go up to later on? I'd hate to miss out on a $400-$500 savings but then again I'm not 100% sure I'm ready to make the switch. Hmmm......

Also, what ever came with the LED dimming patent? I thought companies couldn't make LED units that dim? I guess they came to some kind of agreement?

Call me stupid but I looked on the maxspect usa site today and did not see them. Was your communication with maxspect or slippery little suckers?

I'm not too familiar with LED's yet. I'm wondering if these LED's would work on a tank that is 25" tall. The majority of my SPS sits 12-14" under the water line. I keep most of my LPS on the lower half/sand bed. I do have some clams on the sand also though. Here's a quick layout of the top of my tank 48"x20" with 4 of these modules. I'd guess I would need 4.

Width wise, a 12" AI fixture will cover a 20" tank?

I'm not sure. Thats why I'm asking here. Although that drawing is for the new units and not the AI SOL.

Chuck-

The word is out about those fixtures about a month ago. I wouldn't hold my breath about the release date for those fixtures as well. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the us market hasn't even seen the maxspect g3 series.... And that was announced 1 year ago. Biggest hurdle is the patent junk...... But I guess that doesn't apply to you anymore.

I would still consider the AI.
