Bad_ls1: superray on this forum used to have a reefkeeper elite but now runs apex. You could message him his thought on it.

All 3 should be able to dim the power module. You will need to buy an additional module to controll vortices. I felt the built in controller was good enough for me. Let us know if you have some questions.

Thanks Soymilk. I'll message superray after I do some more research. That way he can help me understand everything I know about them. Haha. There seems to be a LOT to learn about controllers and I want to make sure I choose the right one. Digital Aquatics RKE's pretty website was starting to pull me in. I'm glad you spoke up when you did.

What makes you guys choose the controllers you have or hope to have? If you dont mind, could you get into details like cost, accessories, usability and the like?
To be honest with you, it's just another toy for me. My usage is pretty basic. I run the basic stuff, calcium reactor, lights, tunzes, and top off. I really like the Net aspect of this contorller and it gives me a chance to mess with my Iphone.

That's a big part of it for me also. I'm kind of an electronics/computer geek so it would be a cool toy to integrate into my network at the house. What's more awesome than having cat5 running to your reef!!

I think Soy works for Apex he always pimps them out. But seriously I was thinking RKE for my controller but did some research and talked to Soy and he convinced me to go with Apex.

So what is it about the Apex that attracted you?

I'd love to see a comparison chart between RKE and Apex. Also have it highlight the features that come standard and which you have to pay extra for.

I think the biggest difference between rke and apex is the apex has remote monitoring AND control, the rke only has remote monitoring no control. Also the apex has built in web capability, rke you have to buy the net module. I have read a lot of bad reviews for rke as well.

So why has no one chosen the Profilux? It does everything that people like about their prospective controllers and more. Is it just price point?

Too pricey. It's just way too hard to justify that much money into it. I had to think long and hard before throwing down 500 bones for the apex.

I don't think I could do it for the profilux. Not when the apex can do almost everything the profilux can do.

I also like the fact neptune is a us based company. Easier to get customer service and parts seem to be more widely available for the apex. Very few online presences carry profilux.

I just did a quick review of both controllers internet capabilities. You are right, RKE only lets you monitor and the Apex lets you monitor and control. That is pretty substantial to me. If you aren't home what good is the monitor/alarms if you can't remotely shut pumps down etc?

Unless RKE is coming out with a control feature sometime this year I'm definitely switching gears to the Apex.

I think you are obligated to stop by each house and help each Marsh member program theirs when they get it. :D

Just connect it to the web... I can program it from my house. I r lazy. If enough people get it. I'll start an apex thread with program examples.

Www.kenargo.com is also a great resource. Ken has some great program examples up there. He doesn't explain them though so you kinda have to have a feel for it.

Curt (neptune president) Is awesome. He always replies back to me within a day.

(official breakout box is decent, nice because it's official. But imm make my own. Anyone else interested? Let me know... I'll try to make another.)

It's going to be a few months before I get a controller. I'll definitely follow the thread though.
