What are my wireless options for hooking up a dos with a water reservoir in the garage to my main display tank.

My original play was to run a long USB extension cable out to the garage but I don't feel like running a cable that far out. Is there any way to set up the dos wirelessly?

or is my cheapest option just running a classic apex or apex el out in the garage for wireless.

I tried that. DOS just doesn’t have the pumps to dose that far of a distance.

Just another option....

I had a 30' aquabus cable run from my apex to an eb4 in my garage. I used that to turn a dual head stenner pump on/off and regular intervals for auto water change. I don't know what the max distance is for the DOS but the stenner's are great.

prob 30 feet using ro hardline
How many feet of head pressure?

I second what Steve said. The Stenner Pumps are the way to go, especially for long/high distances that require adequate head pressure.

Going up 8 ft to the attic then across maybe 15.

I’ll look into the stenner. I already have the dos so might as well try to make it work. If it fails I’ll grab the stenner.

It's not going to work. It might actually force some water through, but your flow rate is dropping off exponentially as the head pressure builds, and the DOS was never meant to do more than dose from a container next to the sump and put it into the sump. By the time you run those lines, if there's any flow rate, it's not going to be ideal. The Stenner is an industrial pump that can handle 25psi (some go up to 100psi, but they're not needed for this application) and won't degrade in flow rate the same way. I keep my Stenners in the attic, and both do about a gallon every 15 minutes. I've measured them in real time to be sure.

2-3% daily for each system. Trace elements stay on point with Reef Crystals, but I started feeding more the last 5 months for one particular fish, and now my nutrients are high (14ppm NO3, .14 PO40 and I'm doing larger water changes to bring that down starting tomorrow.

DOS should work but I'm questioning the longevity of the pump head. The pump head is cheap keep a backup just in case.

well.... I was planning on using the dos, but yall got me 2nd guessing it now.

the worst part is after installing it.... recalibrating it is gonna be a pita. are ecotech versas any better? or quit messing around and join #teamstenner

which model are yall running for the stenner?

edit: oof, i just searched ebay for stenner dual head pumps. they 'spensive. even crusty old used ones are going for 400. Considering i paid 200 for my dos new in the box. I'mma tough it out with the dos. #teamcheapass

Here’s the exact model I use and have installed for others, plus the best price I’ve found.

Sure, it’s $180 more than the DOS. Having said that, that DOS isn’t going to work. Let alone the lack of head pressure they can push, you have two different pumps on two different axels with two different motors. How far/high away is the drain tube outlet going to be compared to the new water inlet? When one motor fails, how is that going to effect things? If you can accurately calibrate the motors for an even exchange then how long before the extra head pressure on the one pump throws that off? Do you have a salinity probe? I would absolutely have one so that I could catch a failure before it’s too late. I’m looking up salinity probes now, and they cost about $150, which is about how much more the stenner is than the DOS.

Short story long, those DOS pumps aren’t made for your application. An automatic water change is arguably the single most influential piece of equipment you can implement on your system. We spend hundreds of dollars on skimmers, while an AWC pump can not only export nutrients, but dose literally all the trace elements at the same time while you’re watching a movie on the couch. Invest in the proper equipment if you’re going to do it. My oldest stenner has been running daily for six years, five of which have been 10 feet in the air with a 30 foot run. Only had to change the tubes once as a precautionary maintenance. Worth every penny.

Edit: full disclosure, they’re not quiet. I enjoy that though. I hear the hum in my garage and it lets me know they’re working.

I have an apex so I have a salinity probe. +180 isn't terrible considering getting aquabus cables or a seperate cheapo apex to run the remote dos would have added about another 100 for the dos. Having both heads on one axis one pump does make a lot more sense. Disregarding head failure, it would be tremendously easier keep both input/output synced with just one motor pump.

I think im going to put this plan on hold until I can secure a stenner.

Is there a vendor that’s selling it for cheaper than 700? @Cody was there suppose to be a link?
