That is great.... Sounds like you've gotten them through the toughest phase. Keep up the good work. Your such a good parent to those little ones. :-D

Sorry about the pic quality. It's the best I could do with my limited talent using a conventional 35 mm film camera.

The babies have grown since that pic was taken. Hopefully Les will be able to get an updated shot or two later this week.

arkight, refer to page 2 in this thread for a pic of the parents.

Thanks waypoint for posting the pic. :) I think they were two weeks and two days old at that point, and it was before they were moved to their larger tank.

By the way, these are black onyx percula X ocellaris, so I'm not sure if down the road they themselves will be able to breed successfully. I don't know if being a cross will make them sterile. I do know, however, that their parents are beautiful and they will make fine additions to anyone's setup :)

After doing further research, I have learned that yes, they will be able to breed successfully as crosses, as they will sometimes do this in the wild.

An interesting note: If they were in the wild now, they'd already be hosting their anemones. In captivity they school, which they don't do in the wild. It is really a sight to see them all huddled together in a tight mass at night. When the lights go on, though, they disperse and cruse the tank for groceries. And now when they see me coming towards the tank, they all go to the top in expectation.

Is there a waiting list for these little guys? If so, can I get on it?
Congratulations on this, by the way.

Thanks :)

I have to give Les some credit, too, as he has very healthy parents, and without them, the babies would not have done as well.

Karen and I missed the last batch of eggs due to a miscalculation on my part. You'd think an engineer could count 8 days from laying to hatching, duh. :?

Good news is that there's already another batch of eggs on the way. Should be hatching next Wednesday evening.

Well, I'm not an engineer, but I take that to mean that the eggs were laid on Tuesday

Les, I'll need to get the rock from you as early as possible Wednesday afternoon/evening. I have standing Wednesday evening appointments with someone very special. :)

Some of the babies are working on getting their tail stripes now. I can see tiny blotches of white at the top on some and center of others on their caudal peduncles, and they are getting bigger every day. :) They are now three weeks and two days old. They are weaned off the brine now, though I occasionally still give them some as a treat before lights out. They are eating just about anything they can get into their small mouths at this point. I have been finely grating up pieces of fish, as well as shaving Formula One, offering Cyclop-eeze, crushed flakes and some Golden Pearls rearing diet.

I am not sure how old they will be before they attain an inch in size. I'm hoping in another six weeks or so. Don't be surprised if it's longer, though.
