Thought I'd share a better pic of the new baby for those who are interested in knowing what they look like just pre-morph. This is day 6.

Here's another image with standard airline tubing in the background for size comparison.

Thanks for the pics! Keep 'em coming! Man, you are taxing your camera, those things are SOOOO small! The older ones are cute...younger ones are well....small.

Makes me want to try and raise them.

Just as I thought, my percs laid a batch yesterday right on schedule.

Day of morph for the new little one at day 8. I've named it Lonesome. Note the white stripe forming on its head. These are all top-down views.

Thanks, Nick. It's really difficult to capture him though without blurring the pic, since he moves so fast. I found that I had to focus on the airline tubing or the cord for the heater and then hold the button down halfway and wait for him to swim by and then mash the button all the way real quick to take the pic. I wish the head stripe would show up better. Guess y'all will have to use your imagination. :D

Ok, here are some questions as I have done search after search and havn't found a good website with info on raising the little buggers.

How do I setup the 10g tank?

My percs lay eggs in the same spot and the rock is not removable. So is it true that once the eggs hatch I can use a flaslight to lure them up and net them?

If this is possible, I guess at that time I should shut down powerheads and overflows?

Can I remove the eggs from the rock with a turkey baster?

Thanks, Mark

Mark,

I'll defer to the expert here, but just wanted to add in my .02. I've read you do not want to expose the newly hatched babies to air, so if you lure them with the flashlight, scoop them out with a small bowl instead of a net and then place the bowl into the 10 gallon without them ever touching air.

You need to turn off all powerheads and pumps before lights out. Then after lights out you wait. When the larvae hatch out, yes, you lure them with a small light into and scoop as many out at one time as possible into a clear bowl (so you can see what you're doing) and then gently transfer. Optimally the water in the tank you are transferring to is parent tank water as well and at the same temp, etc.

I start my larvae out in a much smaller tank and transfer them a week or so after they've morphed and grown. It's easier to feed them and do daily or twice daily water changes that way.

You'll need a small air pump, flexible airline tubing, a small heater, a thermometer and an ammonia alert badge and a water test kit.

I use tanks that graduate in size from 2.5 gallon to 10 gallon.

Never try and take the eggs off the rock that they're laid on. Larvae need the substrate to push against for hatching.

Good luck!

I got a fake anemone today for the older clowns. Is this not the most pitiful thing you've ever seen?

Here's Lonesome at day 9, with the head stripe much more visible, and starting to actually look and does now swim like a clownfish. :)

Yeah, I should. I've just been referring to him as the lone one, and then it became lonesome around here by everyone, so it stuck. Someone who shall remain nameless even suggested......shutter......that I should have dumped him down the drain, basically, since he was by himself. How could I? 8O I mean just because he's alone doesn't make his life less valuable; does it? I think NOT!

Karen,

I thank you for not dumping him, he is cute! One fish is just as valuable as the swarm you have in the other tank :D

Ok, Today is day eight for the eggs, so I assume they will hatch tonight.

I noticed in one pic the babies have some cheato in their water. Do I add some when I set up the small tank to put them in?

What about feeding? I have a 2 liter bottle of mixed phyto and a pound of descapulated brine shrimp eggs. How often and at what dosage do I feed them?

Do I need live brine somewhere along the way to feed them. I read that I can hatch these decapsulated eggs.

I have a glass flower jar that I can fill and place right into my sump to keep the temp the same as the tank. This will also make water changes easier. How often do I change the water?

Sorry about all the questions. Mark

Keep asking, some of us are interested. I just got my hope-to-be male in QT this weekend. I think on reefcentral in the clownfish section is a day-by-day thread on clownfish breeding. I haven't read it yet.

I haven't read that one yet. I'll have to go check it out.

I was actually going to start another thread on just the same thing with pics. I think I've started something here

Fireeater, I sent you a PM.
