Yes, fortunately I did not Frag myself in the process.

The Starphire should arrive next week, and then I can finally get moving on this thing. I bought and AquaC EV400 skimmer and I'm getting a Dart pump for my closed loop. I've got lots of rock waiting to go into the tank, so If everything works out I could by cycling by next weekend!

progress!!

PROGRESS!!!

The Starphire finally arrived and Scott helped me install it tonight....errr....actually he pretty much installed it himself :)

I took a picture of the new Starphire glass next to a strip of the old regular glass (both in front of a white door).....big difference!

And here's the whole piece...why does everyone always misspell my last name as Bond? My first name is James, however, so that does make me Bond...James Bond :deadly:

Scott applying silicon....I just left this to the expert...don't want the front panel popping off

Ahhh...the fine workmanship

And here we are. We'll let it cure for 24 hours, apply silicone to the inside corners, let that cure for another 25 hours....AND THEN FILL IT WITH WATER!!!!!!!!

As always...thanks to Scott for all his help.....we're making progress now!

other stuff

I did make an attempt to build something without Scott's help over Memorial Day weekend. I build a stand for the frag tank that will be plumbed into my system, with room next to it for a 6 gallon kalk drip container. Underneath you can see the RO/DI unit, and that is also where my 55 gallon sump will be located. Still haven't found a tank to use for the 2nd in-wall tank.

I also picked up this AquaC EV400 skimmer from a guy on ReefCentral and it arrived today. It's about as tall as my daughter......now I just need a MAG DRIVE 18 to run it.

As much patience as I've learned from this hobby, I can honestly say the following:

I absolutely cannot wait to see the color, growth and texture of the hard corals you end up caring for. I can already tell I'm going to be impressed.

Threads such as this make me wish I was already a millionaire who could just spend his days working with things like this.

Keep up the good work gentlemen and I applaud you on your efforts.

Thanks for the kind words.

I too often with that I was rich and could just stay home and work on this stuff all day long. It has been very difficult to be patient during this whole process only having a few hours a week to really work on it. Hopefully it will all come together soon.

After a brief delay (I though I was going to be moving overseas, but it turns out I'm not) I have resumed work on my tank. I did the plumbing for my closed loop this weekend, and for once I did something without help from Scott!!! I did have a buddy of mine help me out, but he doesn't know anything about plumbing either, but I think it turned out pretty good.

This is a closed loop run by a Dart with 2 drains and 4 returns. It is working well, but I'm having some issues with air getting into it, so I need to find the source and seal it up. Here are the pics:

Here it is about 1/3 of the way finished....

My favorite part....open the ball valve and it empties water from the tank right into the drain in my floor. Talk about easy water changes!!

And of course the project wouldn't be complete without damage to my body. I stood on top of my 50G water container and the plastic lid gave out. As fell partially into the container I "skinned" my leg on the jagged plastic edge where the container broke. 2 days later it's still hurting.

After about 15 months of constantly traveling overseas, my project at work has finally ended and I'm moving to a position where I will not be travelling anymore and will have time for my tank. I do have it up and running right now, but only have a few fish and corals. I plan on stocking it up over the next few months.

This may not be the place for this but you have it so I'll aske here.. I will be doing my own in wall soon, What is the advantage/ disadvantage to having a closed loop? is it just not having to have power heads?

(im sure the answer is not that simple)

Otherwise that is a sweet setup! Now i want dual tanks!!!

Thanks, that was exactly what I needed to read. Power usage is a big concern for me. We bought a fixer upper and every improvement we have done in our first year of ownership has had an energy efficient slant to it. So getting rid of the hot water heater (went tankless) just to add an energy hog pump wouldnt be too smart... Buuuuuut I dont want to look at powerheads either... who knowws what I will do..

Thanks again for the help.. Cant wait to see some more progress on your tanks..
