Precursor

Everything was growing pretty good. Everything but maybe 1-2 low light coral. The maxspect was prob too strong. I had T5 prior to the maxspect. If anyone was wondering....I had 2 clams in the plastic container. Reason why I put them in there was because I didn't want them to plant their foot into the glass. Didn't want to risk hurting them If I had to move them or take them out later.

The setup
I had planned to journal this better but things got busy and i got lazy. So this is all I got.
964019138_VUQuL-M.jpg

I cut out some eggcrate to cover the bottom. I planned on having maybe a goby/shrimp combo and since the shrimp likes to make burrows. I didn't want to have a cave in, and have 50lbs of live rock hitting the bottom of the tank.

Next I tried to wire up my sump. Looks a bit messier now, I might get a custom sump soon. I've been looking at the stuff over at lifereef. But that man wants mucho money for a sump. Pretty stuff though.

964018259_ujtCC-M.jpg

I bought a separate stand for my electronics. I plan to house my ato, doser, controller/outlets. Vika Alex from ikea if anyones interested. It could double for a decent aquarium stand.

Then I got bored and wondered what the maxspect looked like under the covers.

Fast Forward
I was cycling the tank, but then disaster struck. Temp tank was going down fast. Anemone was on its death bed. All the corals looked pretty bad. So I made the call to stick everything in the new tank. I had really good live rock in there from 2-3 other systems. 2 of them were systems with a heavy bio-load. I bought it from other reefers off marsh. Great rock with primo coraline growth. No pest algae at all. I put about 25-30 lbs worth of live rock in there. Then I bought 25 lbs worth of dry rock. I was playing rock legos for a while but didn't like how cluttered it started to look. I then took out most of the dry rock and was left with this. 25 lbs live rock + 15 lbs dry rock, and about 20 lbs rock in my sump.

Still got a bit of tidying up to do.

hey soy nice tank :) i got BRS stuff too, they are great. Please let me know how u like the bubble magus doser i was debating between that and profilux. Litermeter III is nice but way too expensive for each pump.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

I was also debating between the profilux and this one. But I somehow managed to get a deal on this. About 220... I couldn't help myself.

I still haven't even set it up yet. If it's not rigged up by sat. I'll bring it over for you to take a look.

How is the mp40 in that tank and what setting do you run it on? Also how are you liking the apex?

That is a great setup I can't wait to see how this comes along!

MP40 is doing great. There are a few dead spots. I might get another powerhead to take care of the back corner.

I have it on reefcrest about 30-50%. It would probably work better if I out it on the side instead of the back wall but I wanted to conceal it.

Apex is really great. Little bit of a hassle setting up but I do like it's features. This is my first aqua controller but being able to connect it to the Internet straight outta the box did it for me. At times I might work 12-13 hours. Being able to check on it at any time is fantastic.

Just yesterday my gf was at the house and seems my water level went down a little too much in the sump and the return pump was throwing bubbles into the display. She called me up to let me know and I was able to turn off the pump and skimmer at work. Because for the life of me my gf wouldn't have found the right plug to unplug.

hey soy how were u able to turn it off from work...is it the neptunes system NET option thing where it hooks up to ur computer and all that?

Wonder if the neptunes comes with a cutoff switch option to where if the water level gets to low itll shut off the pump or something and maybe vice versa with an ATO if it malfunctions.

My apex is like a mini computer on its own. All I had to do was plug an ethernet cord from my router to it. You don't have to purchase a separate box.

Then it took about 15-20 mins to properly set it up.

I then DLed the iphone app, and I am able to control and monitor everything from there. I can track charts and monitor changes when they happened. It also monitors amperage, i've heard someone using that feature to let him know one of his ballast was on the fritz.

Neptune sells the Breakout Box and you can wire up to 6 different switches to it. I'm still waiting on my ATO to come in but i'll wire up some float switches for redundancy.

Let me know if you wanna stop by and check it out for yourself.

the new elos digital osmocontroller

elos-osmocontroller-auto-top-off.jpg

looked interesting, no more float switches. Suppose to work better than the previous version with a float switch. I was debating between this one and the tunze. Tunze used 3 switches/sensors, one infrared, one float switch, and the built in computer controller.

The elos only has that new patent pending probe and the built in computer. Jesse at elosusa swears by it, so I fig i might as well give it a shot.

Mines coming in lasted this week. Jesse said the shipment is held up at customs. I'll let you know how it works when it gets here.

hey do you know if they have an autoshut off device for the return pump for tanks that are not reefready and use overflowboxes with the U-tubes. Just in an emergency when U-tubes get stuck with algae, and restrict flow so much that the overflow box is not draining as much water as the pump is putting out which could overflow the tank and im looking for a device that will hook up on the top of the tank and shut off when it sees that my water level is too high.

Just get an auto top off like the nano one from autotopoff.com

Flip the switch over so it's on all the time until the water gets too high, it'll switch the power off.
