as long as you have ventilation for the sump area and coat the wood with Killz (mold resistant paint primer) you will be ok.

Just wondering if the drains that you have are loud? and what is your method so that critters dont get sucked into the drains?

Wow, just saw that you posted this, sorry.

I think the drains are loud, but people who come by to check out the system say they aren't, compared to their's. I still want to make overflow boxes for them so there isn't a constant, loud vaccum. As for the critters, they stay away from the drains. I'm actually surprised at this; I thought at least one of the fish would have gotten a little curious by now.

Rock looks better- nice setup. You are the second person I have noticed recently using their BRS style reactor in the sump rather than hanging. Might have to see about doing that myself to save space under the stand.

Thanks! I guess it did look like there was alot in there before.

I got the idea off of funkmaster's setup. I don't use the reactor for carbon anymore, but I might get some GFO.

Been a while since I last updated. Not much has changed; got a few new leathers and pallies, and my monti digis arent doing too well. I moved them into my biocube to see if they will recover, but it doesn't look good.

Man for a 15/16 year old you are way ahead of the biology curve to your peers. Looking good man. I loved science when I was in school and wanted an aquarium, mom never let me have one :) Now I've got 4 LOL.

So any reason you opted to do a clean bottom with no sand or eggcrate? Just curious.

Thank you very much!

Funkmaster told me that it would be better to do barebottom because it looks better and there is less maintenance. Currently, I do have to scrub it free of diatoms every week, but the coralline algae is slowly taking over. I would really like to grow zoas along the bottom, but they don't grow very quickly at the bottom for some reason. I may have to start spot feeding them with oyster.

sand doesn't take much to keep nice. buy a sand shifter sea star and he will shift it. haha. thats what i did. and you could mix black with white sand that looks awesome! and sand is important for bacterial growth and stuff ( at least thats what i have learned)

Not sure the par readings off the LED lighting but Ive seen some use encrusting Montipora on the bottom, as well as GSP as Mike said. Looks pretty cool. Brave going barebottom. Not sure I could bring myself to do it. Great work on the tank. Good to meet you today. Cant wait to see the new project break ground.
