I realize this is an older post but having fished the bay many times over the past 60 years I'd like to offer suggestions to those who might want to collect again. Years back I did some wading near the base of the dike at low tide and collected some clumps of oyster shell with lettuce algae growing on it. It had lots of blue crabs, barnacles, pods and quite a bit more. I brought some bay water back, filled a ten gallon aquarium and set it outdoors in filtered sun. After several weeks it turned pea green and in a short time there were hundreds of barnacles attached to the glass. I turned over some rocks at the base of the bridge to Galveston and dislodged several two inch long animals that very much looked like mini lobsters. At one time you could go to holland bayou in Hitchcock and seine up native green mollies and an assortment of killies and pup fish. Unfortunately progress has dried up or silted up most of the good spots but at night you can often seine up small jelly fish and different varieties of shrimp along with baby marine fish.
