I've been using Hanna checker Alkalinity and phosphorus checkers.

How in the heck do you get all the Phosphorus powder in the curvette. I put a crease down the center to funnel it in but most of the time at least a little falls out.

Do you clean your curvette bottles? How?

You gotta cut off the top straight.
Then squeeze one side together so you have a mouth and tick the stuff out..............

I use a tiny purfume funnel from the Container Store. I'll link it below.

I cut the long tip off just enough where it will balance in the curvette. I leave only 1/4" on the tip.

Regarding the phosphorus reagent: After flicking all 4 sides of the packet to loosen the powder, I cut 2 sides to form the spout.

I store the cuvettes with DI water. The logic being that the partial pressure to any contaminants will be highest to go into solution. I have no proof that this is effective or even needed :).

In the lab we rinsed alll glassware with distilled water and let it air dry. You shouldn't have any crud in your water to build up on the glass that way. I rinse mine in RODI water and let it air dry. Don't use tap on any glassware or you will get build up.

On my packets, I cut one side off and then once I spread it out, I take the tip of the scissors and stick in there and open up the corners. Then bend a crease in the middle and tap it into the bottle. I never lose any powder.

If you have to, how do you clean it? Vinegar, alcohol or something else?

With the packet I don't use scissors, I tear it. Maybe that is part of the problem. The other part is me.

I know it's not the best method, but I evenly fill both vials, dissolve the powder in one (which typically takes more than 3 minutes for to dissolve) then switch them out during the test. One to calibrate, one to test. I'm sure it makes my margin of error a little wider, but I have a hard time getting powder to dissolve in 3 minutes (before the unit turns off) without microbubbles showing up. Not the correct way, but it's what I do.

I thought about doing that but time is usually not my problem.

I do the same thing a lot. It's still fairly close. I've tested both ways. It's just so hard to get the regent in and shake and then let it dissolve in the amount of time they give you. They need to give two extra minutes for that.

I use the funnel now and can usually pull it off.

By the way, the new checker have a 3 minute time out !!! So no worries about the mixing.

Cody, shake gently...... you know ;-)
Seriously, gently as well just turn it up and down works very well and the powder disolves in less then 1,5 minutes.

Ain't no body got time for that! Haha! As long as it's close to where I want it, then I'm fine. If the parameters get out of wacky, then I do it correctly. I just wish that they had a liquid reagent.

I put the reagent in the vial first, then add water to the top off line. Put the lid on and set your iphone timer for 2 minutes. Slowly turn the vial over and back during that 2 minutes and all will be dissolved. If you shake it, you will make micro bubbles. For any bubbles, gently tap the side of the glass. Wipe glass with your shirt to clean and only hold by the cap. Then start the test. Put test vial in, then after calibrated, switch to reagent vial. This is assuming you have 2 vials.
