I put the reagent in the vial first, then add water to the top off line. Put the lid on and set your iphone timer for 2 minutes. Slowly turn the vial over and back during that 2 minutes and all will be dissolved. If you shake it, you will make micro bubbles. For any bubbles, gently tap the side of the glass. Wipe glass with your shirt to clean and only hold by the cap. Then start the test. Put test vial in, then after calibrated, switch to reagent vial. This is assuming you have 2 vials.
I read this earlier. Are you concerned with the variances of the vials themselves?

Just make sure to cut the tip short enough on the funnel so that it doesn't touch the water. :thumb:

Yes that is the most important part. Don't let the funnel get wet! Once I pour the reagent in I kind of tap the funnel up and down on the glass vial to knock any stuck reagent into the water. When done I rinse with RO/DI water and then I fill the glass vial with ro/di and put the cap on. That way it doesn't dry out and get spots. Since it's RO/DI water when it's time to test I just open the cap, pour into tank and then rinse with tank water before filling. Not sure if it helps any but it doesn't seem to hurt.

I've never cleaned mine other than running RO/DI water in them. You can buy replacements if you feel they are getting too old/dirty. I seem to have a bad habit of dropping mine on the tile floor breaking them. Maybe that is why I never have to clean them LOL!!!

They aren't dirty. I rinse well with tap water and let them air dry.

Reading this thread it seems I clean and store my vials in not the best way.

Should I clean with vinegar or alcohol first, then rinse in RODI?

Well when I say dirty I mean have something in them. Rinsing with tap water and letting air dry will definitely leave water spots in them which you don't want. Maybe soak them in some vinegar over night then rinse with RO/DI to give a good cleaning. I would think that is good enough. After that just use RO/DI to clean.

I use 9% vinegar. Rinse it out quite a bit after and you're good to go.

not with the variance in the vials, they should be the same. But if you fill the water to the line, then add the powder, technically the additional volume of powder will push the water level over the line, making the test slightly off. But if you put the powder in the vial first, then add water to the line, it should be exactly what the instrument is calibrated for.
