While its too early to panic, now would be a good time to check your hurricane supplies/plan/tank plan.

Looks like Dean will be coming into the Gulf of Mexico.

oh ok, i was thinking about making a UPS for my hydor korlia 4. it draws 9 watts, so theoretically it'll run off a standard 50 amp hour car battery for almost 3 days. do you think that would suffice?

you should test that before depending on it. certain ups's can't send out a clean enough sinewave for some A/C pumps. just depends on the pump and the UPS.

i was going to go get a trickle charger for a car battery, plug that into the wall and on the battery. take a power inverter from the battery and plug my pump into that. kinda like the one used to pluag a laptop into your car cig lighter. the power inverter should be able to power the pump, and a 50 amp hour car batter with a korilia 4 pulling .75 amps, would go for about 67 hours. i think i may try it

This is a good thread. It wouldn't hurt to also have everybody that runs RO/DI at home give a shout out so that people in their area could have a place to get freshwater in the event the LFS's are unavailable.

I personally keep a 35 Gallon holding tank topped off and ready to go all of the time.

I'm in New Territory near 99 and 90.

Excellent thread. I've got the batteries but haven't started stocking up on RO water yet.

Don't wait to the last minute.

After that comes the important supplies....food, water, liquor, firearms... :D

Hello,,

??? and ??? of the day, I have a LFS friend who say's that the back up battery's that cover our computers have the same wattage standard that a pc light and a couple of pump operate on. Is there any confirmation to this.

Has anyone used a battery powered water pump in conjuction with a battery powered air pump to increase water movement?

some UPC's work with SOME pumps, only way to know if yours works are to try. That being said its still not a long term solution. Most only last hours.

I like a combination of the airpumps for circulaiton with new batteries, should run a couple of days.

Then I have a generator for after the storm goes through while waiting on power again. IMO the biggest challenge Ill have in the event of an extended power outage will be cooling the tank with no A/C in the house. My solution for now is a window unit my generator can run.

Instead of a UPS powering your main pump. I was thinking about using 12dc marine livewell pump to help keep the water moving in the tank. I was wandering if anyone had tried this?

I think that would work. If your staying put it could work well as it doesnt have to come on automatcally. No idea how long that would run though, should be quite a while.
