i broke down and bought 2 of the new - AI hydra Thirty Two HD

One didnt work and had a "driver fault" so now i gotta deal with returning it to the factory.

The other one i noticed doesnt have wifi mode (just bluetooth) so no cloud, doesnt have manual mode, doesnt have kelvin wheel and doesnt have effects mode.

ive downloaded the latest update on the app but setting dont look anything like the pictures on their website.

has anyone bought one of these that can help me compare or see what im doing wrong?

Definitely seems like they have more features. Weird that even after a firmware update it didn't look like theirs. Have you tried to email them? Maybe tomorrow you can reach them by email or phone.

Or try here: Aqua Illumination

I just went to their forum, but could not post a thread. Good luck. I'm not sure why.

So how are these and what different about them? They look like they may be smaller pucks? More spread out? Are there more diodes? Also looks to have a thinner appearance.

pros (so far)
the lights are spread out more and there are more diodes
comes with a moonlight feature
same footprint

cons (so far)
they are not wifi enabled only bluetooth
no effects, like lightning, but who really uses that anyway.
no manual mode
no kelvin wheel
no cloud

and one doesnt work at all... something has seriously gone wrong here... so now i have to take off work to call them during business hours. #nothappy

heres one detail that is really a pain... to factory reset the light, you have to hold down the power button on the light as you plug in the light. since the light is hanging over my tank and the power supply is near the floor you have to have two people.

They have to be able to get on the cloud? I don’t see that being something they do away with. If so, that’s a poor business decision. Keep us posted!

The words “WiFi” and “cloud” are nowhere to be found on their website. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well I talked to customer support this morning...

They say the board came loose during shipping and are sending me directions to open it up and fix it.

They also said all the features I seem to be missing have been removed from the program... no cloud, no manual mode, no kelvin wheel, no WiFi and no effects.... no wonder the price is the same as the hydra26, they’ve upgraded the light but removed several features and haven’t updated the website.

My final complaint is that to return the light you need a RMA... so you can’t just take it back to where you bought it and exchange it like you can every other product made on the planet.

Dang, I’ve never had any issues with AI. Sad to see this bad review. I would return both and keep my 26’s [emoji51]

Lol... sold the 26’s already. I’m a fan of AI so I’m gonna give them a chance. I’m assuming since they are so new that they still need to work out some of the bugs.

Good to hear you got it sorted out. They must have changed the connection type with the new model design. The old boards used sets of pins for this and there was no way it could have become disconnected. Hopefully this will not be an issue with the new lights.

Unbelievable!

Like I told you yesterday on the phone, them removing a manual switch for the lights is insane. That's like buying a tv that doesn't have any buttons on it and saying "hope you don't lose the remote".

It amazes me that they have removed key features like cloud connect, manual mode, the kelvin wheel, WiFi connectivity, and weather effects. Many of those were reasons I switched TO the Hydra lights from the Photon v2.

Hopefully they will reinstate these with an app/firmware update in the near future. If nothing else hopefully they will have much tighter binning on the LED's compared to the 26's.

Man I hope the Wi-Fi/cloud is just a software thing and they didn't remove any hardware. I just ordered four 32s last night. I really don't need Wi-Fi or cloud but it is a plus to turn the lights on for the wife when I'm downstairs.

You should be able to do that via Bluetooth

True, but I tuned my prime off of my laptop because I couldn't get my mechanic hands to hit the slider just right on my phone.

I'm in the same boat as you. I cannot make adjustments to the sliders on the mobile app at all without screwing it up. It never will hit the setting I want for the schedule. This is exasperated by how I have my lighting configured. I have four 26's over my main tank but they are split into two pairs inner and outer lights as well as a pair of Primes over my small tank. They all run the exact same schedule with one exception. The outer 26's do not have a moon light schedule set. I did this because even with the blues at 1% with four 26's on it made the tank too bright for my liking. So I split them up so only the inner lights handle the moon lighting. This gives the tank a much better moonlight appearance. So trying to set a matched complex schedule on three sets of lights on the mobile app was a total pain and the ability to do this over the cloud connect was a life saver for me.

@PorpoiseHork have you noticed any pros to running a moonlight schedule, I've been curious as to if there was any benefit to having one.
