There's a couple that do in AI's Signature tanks section. As far as others, I honestly couldn't say.
The general thought is it may help promote spawning, provide nocturnal critters a touch of light for foraging, gives a more natural day/night lunar light cycle as would be on the reef. If you dose live phyto it may also spur the microfauna like copepods or zoo plankton to migrate about the tank more. This is largely anecdotal as there probably is no actual studies having been done on it.
But hey, it gives us an opportunity to look at the tank after a few hours of darkness for potential issues that we might miss when the main lights are on.
