Ok, guys, I have been working on cultivating some protist...maybe ciliates that eat cyano and diatoms!!! Sounds exciting right. Well I don't have a microscope to find out what they are and I personally probably wouldn't be able to id anyway, but that is not going to stop me.:koolaid:

So now comes the part where I need some brave individuals to help me out.:scared:
If you have any experience with microbiology or have a tank that is still in the makings and still going through the cycling process I would like to add some of what I will call "flakes" Which is just a biofilm on the glass of my system. Also if you have a system that is over run with cyano I would like to see what it can do for you too!!

Guys this could be a huge potential advancement in biological warfare on a well-known enemy to many of our reefing friends, so if you would like to help out in any way I would love to make it a marsh project!!!:boink:

Have fun and happy reefing.

That's what I am trying to get rid of... CHEMICALS!!!

Why not go for a natural approach that will live in your system and balance it out!! The cyano is there why not use a natural predator:noidea:!?!

Ok.... but like I said I would like to do a club thing so we can document for everyone to see and help out the whole community of the reefing world!!! This project is not just for me that would be selfish. I am not saying I don't want to make money off this project for the purpose of restoration projects, but let's do it together.:grouphug::mwave::jump:

I’ve got cyano just starting to kick off, but is this reef safe? My tank is established.

I could help. My big tank is still getting built (going on over a year now) and only has rock sand and two fish in it. But lots of diatoms, I’ll take a pic when the lights turn on.

I am about 75% it is reef safe!!!:der:

I don't think you will have a problem. I would just like to start with something that we are not going to take a big chance on, if you know what I mean. They are just natural predators to cyano and diatoms found in the ocean.

I run my tanks for the most part"natural" as in wild stuff natural sea water, live ocean mud, etc. meaning no chemicals, no qt, natural fish immunity and so-on. It has lead me to quite a few things and keeps drawing me deeper!!:twitch:

Let's wait and see who volunteers first.... I mean worst comes to worst I will just have to setup some more tanks!!:peace:

First thing first how have you been? It has been a awhile. How are the kids? How are all the aquatic friends?

That would be awesome nicki!!

Few questions :
Can we get some details on your system? How long has it been cycling and what stages has it been through so far?

When is the next time you will be down here?

Hi!!!!!! Man, I have been so crazy busy. My fishy friends have suffered a bit. Reef tank is full of GHA. Got a photography business going and it has just been nonstop. Every weekend has been photoshoots

Heart And Lens Photography + About | United States | Heart & Lens

Kids are good! Getting big!!! But you know how that is! I’m planning another beach trip soon! The kids didn’t get enough Friday when we stopped by. Might just have to make a day trip, but also planning a weekend trip.

This tank has been up a little over a year. It’s a 210. Been through the entire cycling process, but like I said I just now put some lights on it. Since it only has two clownfish, rocks and sand, didn’t feel like taking the time to set up the lights until one on my reef tank caught fire 🤣[emoji24][emoji85]

Oh no, full on fire billowing out from under the canopy. Miraculously we caught it before it spread from the light. No clue how it happened. No warning, breaker didn’t flip, or anything. No lives lost that I know of. Luckily we were already prepared to replace those lights etc so we don’t need anything else built. My husband works a lot so the canopy/cabinet/bookshelf/desk that he’s building over and around the 210 is a slow process.

I’m running a kid to a friends house so I’ll have to get back to you on brands of equipment. But I have a sump, skimmer, fuge

Holy Cow! I've never seen a light burn like that, you and the family are very fortunate it didn't spread or cause any injuries to anyone [emoji72]

Yes ma’am. I was napping and the hubs was working upstairs. He came down for a second and saw black smoke pouring out of the formal dining room. At first we had no clue where it was coming from, then we opened the canopy, and there were flames. All I could think to do was unplug everything and start throwing water on it.

Very scary and very very fortunate
