Hey Guys , I have 120 a friend of gave me he could not do it anymore so I broke it down and moved it to my house it has been up and running since Jan. 28 , he had live stock in it so it was set right back up , Stock as follows : a large Naso Tang , a Hippo tang, Coral Beauty , Yellow tang , a purple lobster and two small domino damsels, a few snails , and some Softies. No3 , and Po4 where pretty high over 100 ppm and 3.4 , I have been working on getting those down. All fish have been doing great and then last night noticed the hippo looks to have Ich and tonight she is covered and one of the damsels now has Ich , temp. Is 78.7. I don't have a tank to take and put them in is there anything I can treat the tank with to help these guys. Thanks

FOWLR tank? Or corals as well?

Just got through reading a looong thread on RC on this topic. There are many varying opinions. I'll be QT'ing all my new arrivals on this next tank a minimum of 6-8 weeks.

Copper, cupramine, reducing salinity, fresh water dips and some even advice selcon or garlic additives for foods are all common treatments.

Good luck. I'd perhaps find someone in the classifieds forum local to you getting rid of a 40l or 75g tank and treat accordingly.

Certainly a separate QT is by far the best option, but if you can't do that or remove the corals and snails to treat the fish in the 120, consider getting a couple skunk cleaner shrimp. When I had velvet recently, the fish were literally lining up to get cleaned by my one shrimp, so I got a couple more. My hippo tang and clown fully recovered without any other treatment.

If you can get them out, start slowly ramping up Copper to a therapeutic level if the fish are struggling. Cupramine can be tested with a salifert test kit. Or you can start tank transferring the fish every 72hrs or 3rd day.

I Personally do both now. I find it to be quicker and safer. I use CP more than copper and if you need some ASAP, just PM me and I'll give it to you if you can come get it. Promise it will stop their stress.

A cleaner shrimp won't work for ICH (its under the skin), but it could possibly give the fish some relief from Velvet since it's external on the surface of the skin like Frank's situation. Good luck!

I have extra tanks you can borrow if you need them please do not use copper in them though. I can also treat at my place. I use the TTM and have never had an issue.

Thanks everyone , I have them all in QT , but the largest I could find last night was a 29 gallon there are only six fish but the Naso Tang is fairly large probably 5 or 6 inches long , I don't know if that is large enough. I added a ample of Biodigest to the QT have a couple of pieces of ornamental fake rock in it for hiding. I am not sure how long I need to do this , there are so many oppinions out there.

I know it's a little late but my Petco always had tanks. Occasionally they will have up to a 55. They are usually much cheaper but good hospital tanks. I'm not certain when the next dollar per gallon sale would be.

Edit: Just found a post saying March 26th to April 16th for next 2017 sale.

If you are doing TTM, you only have to make it 3 days and the Petco ammonia remover will usually get you through a few days without having to do a water change. Just remember to NEVER use it with copper.

First we have to know what method you are using and weather or not you have a positive ID. Next, you will have to be able to run your display fallow for 72 days. With a 5" tang, you will want at least a 55gallon observation QT or someone else to hold him for you which I can do if you would like. If it were me in your shoes and I knew it was ich, I would start TTM.

Here is the bullet points of what you will need:
-Two clean and dry tanks. 5 gallon buckets for most smallish fish or 29gallon tanks for larger tangs or angels
-Two 25 watt heaters
-Air pump with lots of tubing
-PVC fittings larger than the fish
-Ammonia remover such as Seachem Prime
-Enough NEW saltwater for 4 transfers
-Small fan

Here is how you do it:
Prepare tank
1. Fill one tank 2/3s of the way full of NEW salt water
2. Treat with Ammonia remover
3. Place PVC fittings on bottom of tank- this is for the fish to hide in
4. Tie brand new airline to one fitting and start air.
5. Temp acclimate fish to new water. DO NOT CROSS CONTAMINATE WTER
6. Place fish in new water. Do not feed until an hour or so before transfer
Repeat this process after 48 hours in newly prepared tank at least 3 times

To clean the tank:
1. Dump 1 cup bleach into tank water after fish has been removed
2. Let sit for one hour
3. Drain and rinse the tank
4. Discard airline
5. Place fan over tank to insure it is ABSOLUTELY DRY for at least 24 hours

Thanks Chris , we where to worried about it so I have already ID it is ICH from everything I have researched , I have already moved them in to 29 gallon QT and treated with copper band , they seem to be doing fine got them in there early this morning they actually eat at normal feeding time I feed them very little but did feed them , I will get some prime and was thinking about doing 50% WC twice a week obviously that would be complete WC weekly. It would be great if you could take my Naso Tang is large , he had no signs of Ich on him I know that does not mean anything , the Hippo and 1 damsel where the only two that showed any visibly signs oh Ich. Thanks

Not sure if you said that you are treating your tank with copper or not but if you are...please read my post above. DO NOT USE PRIME OR ANY AMMONIA REDUCING AGENT WITH COPPER OR YOU COULD KILL YOUR FISH!!!!!!!! This is definitely true with Seachem Cupramine. Not sure about the other copper products but any reducing agent will turn Cupramine into a lethal form of copper. Just FYI.

Your water change schedule depends on your fish load and feeding, but if your doing TTM...you will need to transfer every 72hrs or 3 days. I try to feed only what the fish consume and sometimes that doesn't always happen. You need to test for nitrites and ammonia. That size tank with 6 fish should be OK for 3+ days. Just make sure you have an air-stone.
