Well, I got the MaxSpect fixtures fixed tonight. I had to do some soldering to fix the issue w/ the white button on one driver, but it was pretty simple, and it works now. They sent me a white LED instead of a blue one, but I swapped it for the dead one & hung the LEDs back up tonight.

One thing is clear - they don't put out nearly as much light as the 8 bulb T5 I had over the tank when they were busted. I will have to watch & see how everything does over the next couple of days.

My anemones are certainly not thrilled with the LEDs. I think they got used to the abundance of light w/ the T5s and are pissed off about it. They are walking up the rocks & sort of "spreading out". I may need to get an LED spotlight just for them. That's an option. I may need one for the clam, too. Or I could go back to T5s. I wish Tek or ATI made a fixture with LED moonlights integrated. Oh well.

I got a clam from Dennis today. "My first clam" . It's a 3" Maxima clam. I had it in the sand but from what I've read they like it in the rocks better ... and I want it closer to the light ... so I moved some stuff around and put it up closer to the light, on a rock.

I also took home the "war hammer" that Dennis had in his big tank, and some bright green Blastos. More pictures are in order tomorrow, I guess.

On the equipment side, I decided to skip dosing 2 part & try to stay with Kalk for a while longer. I got fed up w/ how messy dosing Kalk via my ATO topoff was, so I got and installed a reactor. We'll see how it goes!

My skimmer is still going nutso from the EcoBAK pellets, I guess. Ever since I started those it has been pulling out tons of the stinkiest goo I have ever smelled in a skimmer.

Couple new pictures ... one showing the FTS with LEDs, one with one of my RBTAs (you can see how it is "stretched out" ... more than with the T5s), one with the new clam, and one with my scoly. None of the colors are quite right, but whatever ... it's a P&S camera & very little editing.

I also have a crappy video I shot on the P&S camera.

I'm a bit concerned about your thoughts on the LEDs, I was hoping to utilize them for my next tank but being a current T5 user, I'm less than enthusiastic.

I have the same Avast Marine (although mine is actually Grey Seas Aquatics) kalk reactor. Be careful with the top elbow, sometimes it will clog with kalk. Also, try not to put too much kalk in it at one time and make sure it gets to the bottom before you start pushing water through it.

My biggest problems in general aren't with LEDs; I have mostly just had issues with the build quality of the Maxspect fixtures. The only issue I have with the color of my current fixtures is that reds seem washed out; more orange than red. Reds popped under the T5's I had.

Pictures!

FTS. You can see here what I like about the LEDs - they're tiny & it's easy to look into the top of the tank - I also like the fact that the room stays cool with these, unlike the T5's.

Left side of the tank. You can see the new wall hammer and Yongei Blue Acropora (with acro crab) that I got from FJW. You can also see some of the frags I got from Quoc; most have more than doubled in size.

Right side of the tank. The SPS I all got from Quoc; the mushrooms hitchhiked in on that rock.

this tank looks sooo nice!! I love the LED lighting! Last I saw, those things were going for like $600 bucks each...they better now?

You have so many of my favorite corals and fish in there. I love the powder blue tang...i'm scared to get one cause I heard they are a really difficult fish to keep! Maybe one day! great tank though! keep sharing pictures!

I got this fish in late February if I remember correctly. I have gone through 2 good bouts of Ich with it, but that's it. The first was when I first put it into the 75 gallon tank I had at the time, and the second after I moved him to the new tank. There was also a smaller Ich outbreak soon after the 2nd, but I think it was the same one coming back around again. The fish has kicked it himself each time, I just feed him plenty of varied Nori (red/brown/green) and then he eats like a pig when I feed the tank in the evenings. He's put on quite a bit of weight and girth in the last 7 months, but hasn't gotten much bigger lengthwise.

Not sure if this will work, but here is a picture of when I first got him ... you can see how skinny he was.

The one thing I don't like about the PBT is that he's mean. Really mean. He chased a small Naso tang straight out of the tank ... literally the Naso jumped out of the tank, and flew out the door and across the hall. Lucky I was there to get him! He nearly killed an Anthias before I got it out and he has me scared to try to add anything else ... fish will try to kill anything I put in there I think.
