Which fixture did you have in mind?

So many nice looking fixtures out nowadays.

quick update...

no aquarium yet. i'm still waiting, but getting more impatient by the day. the guys at fish gallery told me that the tank and stand are done, but the last truck from dallas to houston was full up and didn't have room for my tank. i was told it would be here tomorrow or friday.

as for equipment, i picked up four tunze 6055's and a tunze 7095 controller. not sure if i want to use the controller to do any pulsing action, but i'll have plenty of time to play with the settings once the tank gets here. i might add another pair of non-controllable tunze nanostreams to the tank (such as the 6045s) if the above setup isn't enough flow for my tastes. i love lots of water flow in case you couldn't tell.

i'm still debating on a return pump. the tank's plumbing consists of two 1" drains and one 1" return, so i have some options. all i know is that i will be using a manifold style return to feed water to the refugium, a pair of media reactors (one carbon and one biopellet/gfo), and the calcium reactor. i hope to feed everything off of one pump to keep things simple and keep energy costs down. i like quiet one pumps and i've been using them for years. but there are other pumps out there that use less energy and put out more flow, but i'm just not sure what pump i want to use.

for sand i will be using caribsea seaflor special grade reef sand. i've used it in previous setups and i like it. it's small enough for fish and sea cucumbers to sift through, but heavy enough to not get blown around so easily. for the rock, i will be ordering dry key largo rock from marco rocks. i plan on ordering 90lbs, but i know i won't use that much. i'll use the pieces that look the best, and whatever is left over will fill the refugium and the frag tank.

for salt, i'm trying a new brand. i have used instant ocean, reef crystals, red sea coral pro, and oceanic in the past, but i'm always looking for something to tweak. i liked the red sea coral pro and had mixed emotions about the oceanic, but i want to try something on the higher end of the scale. i picked up a bucket of seachem's aquavitro salinity from super pet world here in baytown and will be trying it out. i keep hearing good things about it, so i'll give it a shot.

that's all i got so far.

Still undecided on most of the equipment at the moment but thinking of maybe doing LEDs. We will see.

Don't do it!... Don't do it!... You will thank me later. :D

I know this is a little late, but why will he be thanking you if he doesnt go with LED?

Dang Brandon, that seems like a lot of flow. But, you probably almost cant have enough as long as the sand stays put.

Pick away =).

On a side note I am changing my flow plans. I am going to use two Tunze 6105's and two 6045's instead of the 6055 setup I mentioned before. So now I just need to sell the 6055's.

What made you change the pumps? Since you have the controller, the 6055s should work pretty nicely.

Selling the 6055s should not be too difficult. I sold my pair very quick but I did sell it below $150/each.

as I got to looking at it, if the pumps are pulsing then the instantaneous waterflow is quite low...like 2800 gph. I just want more water flow or at the very least more options if I want to change things up down the road.

The above are nice pumps but there is nothing wrong with good old eheim or mag pumps. I rather save my money for nice corals. :D

i already have a snapper. never seen water. just not sure if i want a big old external pump. the laguna/askoll based return pumps are nice and not that pricey. an atb flowstar 1500 is only about $250, so it's doable.

i really like eheims too, but i might try to go with a higher flow volume as i want to feed the calcium reactor, a pair of media reactors, and most likely my refugium.

instead of gravity feeding my refugium, i want to have the source of water coming from the return pump. this way i can control the flow and have both drains from the aquarium going into a pair of filter socks.

Brandon, if it helps any to picture what you need as far as gph, my tank is 36x36x24 so just a little bit bigger than yours. My return pump is the Eheim 1562 running at full bore. It is not feeding any other reactors or anything... just a standard return.

I stopped by fragsnmore today, he had a poseidon velocity t2 running on his sump, i bent all the way down and put my ears to it and could not hear it running, had to look at the plumbing to see if it was running and it was, all i can say is wow! and really small too.

Just got off the phone with Fish Gallery. Tank should be done in a week or so. Also got more details on the overflow box...it will have two 1" drains and one 1" return. Apparently this is the default option for the AGE aquariums, though it is customizable. I was happy with it so decided to keep it that way.

Still undecided on most of the equipment at the moment but thinking of maybe doing LEDs. We will see.

Got the tank yet?

No, Fish Gallery has been irritatingly slow. Keep getting the "it'll be here next week" runaround.

That's what I did with mine. Gives you more options for the flow rate.
