Well, things have finally settled down from moving and time to start thinking about new tank.

Found a great deal from Mike @ ADG on a used tank, ~225 gallons, euro-braced, etc.

They delivered it today, had them place it on two brand new saw horses, rated at 1000lbs capacity (tank weighs between 500 and 600 lbs):

15 minutes after taking the above picture, heard noise in the garage, went out and found this:

Tank is totaled, the ADG guys were still in the neighborhood so they graciously agreed to come back and dispose of the debris.

Back to the drawing board.

How do you figure ? Right angles to the longest tank dimension, on a level surface, ~1/3rd of the way from either end ? It didn't fall over. One of them catastrophically failed under load.

Ouch!

That just sucks! I hate to see that happened, looks like the sawhorse on the left just gave way under the pressure and shot the the one on the right out from under it. It looked as if the horses were placed equally, the one on the left just failed. I would take 'em back to where you bought them and tell 'em they owe you what the tank cost! You have the pictures to prove it.

OMG!!! 8O When i scrolled down to see the second pic i literally said "EW!" out loud. That is terrible, and i know in your mind as you went into the house after ADG dropped it off you were figuring out your configuration (i.e. plumbing, sump, livestock, skimmer, etc.). I think i would be so thoroughly pissed that i would not be able to share my terrible tragedy with everyone! It takes a strong person...

Is the bottom the only piece broke? Maybe you can replace that piece? Or is it chipped up the sides, etc.

Tank was overbuilt (had a double bottom), both of layers are cracked in places. One corner was 'pulverized' into smaller pieces.

And on one side the eurobracing cracked, perhaps under compression when one end hit the floor first.

It's totaled.

I've got a pair of those sawhorses at home. After taking one look at them I wouldn't even trust them with my 30G.

It's molded into them and also printed on the packaging:
Max load capacity 1000lb per two sawhorses.

I don't believe it either (now). :angry1:

Load (weight) would have been the same no matter where I placed them.

I believe the sawhorse company should reimburse you, and you've got the evidence to prove your claim.

Screw the horses. I placed my custom 180 on wooden planks laid flat on the ground. When it takes 4 grown men to move something, the only place that boy is going is on a sturdy stand or the ground. Man, I am so sorry that you lost that tank. I will tell you the truth, if it were me, I would have cried like a baby.

If I hadn't gone out of my way to get something with more capacity than required, I'd agree with you.

But there's no way that tank weighs anywhere close to 1000lbs...

And believe me, permanently it was going to go on a stand made of 4" square steel tubing.

carp said:
umm you were asking for it the way those horses were placed

I beg to differ, granted maybe they could've been spread further apart. But they didn't fold up, say from a strong wind against the tank pushing it one way or the other. The center brace on the left horse gave way and that sucker splayed out like a $2 hoe. That's always the first thing that goes on those suckers I've seen it happen before while they were holding up a 250lb counter top. This is another case of top of the line quality control.
