I have no need to buy a new controller at the moment. But when I do, I will at least research The Vertex. Having said that, it would take a lot for me to trust my setup to vertex. Apex has been good to me for the most part. I would prefer to wait at least six to 8 months for Apex to work the bugs out of the new system.

But if I needed a new controller, it would be hard to buy the old model knowing it’s outdated and worth a fraction of what I paid for it.

Go with GHL if you want to switch. And their stuff is always compatible... and upgradeable... and built/engineered beyond anything else.
Apex is making a lot of people angry right now.

Like the feature set, hate the "new" look...

It doesn't look very serious does it, more of like a toy, doesn't instill a whole lot of trust.

I sure like my old black bars. I'm not a fan of the orange. My bars aren't broke and my reef functions well. After you've been in this hobby for a while, you soon realize that new stuff gets released almost on a daily basis. No need to jump on it unless it's an absolute must have. These do not strike me as must haves. Give it 6 months and they will probably change these due to people complaining about something. Let's see how these function, look mounted, and if they will stand the test of 6 months.

That should put a lot of minds at ease. APEX should have included those facts with the announcement of the new APEX.

Yeah, they almost lost customers over it. I'd say that was a botched announcement there.

I think the ones that are really hacked are the ones who purchased the GOLD and took the $100 off only to find out a short time later that hey a "NEW" and improved system is coming out... They should have made the announcement with the Q&A and then offered $100 off to those who purchase the APEX GOLD Classic... that is the way you treat your customers.

Yeah, they almost lost customers over it. I'd say that was a botched announcement there.

Im sure they did not forsee the communities reaction. In hindsight I'm left to assume that with APEX excellent reputation and customer service they did not expect current users to expect the worst as far as possible discontinuation and lack of support. But that is human nature, after all a controller is part of disaster preparation.
I agree the biggest drop of the ball is not announcing the new one before the price reduction of the GOLD package just to give you the option. I think the Gold would have sold just fine at the 699 price after the announcement. I would have been happy with the GOLD but i didnt mind spending a bit extra for the added features.Now those that bought the GOLD didn't have the opportunity to choose.

I feel a bit duped. Don't get me wrong, I love the Gold but now I'll have to spend $800 on another one to upgrade mine and put this one on the other tank. My wife already knew what I was setting up with my comments. What can I say, she knows me.

Me: Neptune just came out with a brand new APEX. Completely redesigned. That sucks because we JUST bought this gold.
