Ha, naw it’s ok Cody. :)

Man...i brought my wife to the tank for the big start up, and wouldn’t you know it.....

I left 2 small ball valves in my manifold open!!

When I kicked that mag 9.5 on...all I heard after 3 seconds was water dumping on the floor behind the tank!!! My mind was doing circles as to what in the world it was as I had checked almost everything for gaskets and made sure my plumbing was done right. It dumped about a gallon before I figured out what was going on. LOL.

Reefing never ceases to amaze me. It will always Throw you a curveball...even if your Sanjay Joshi or Mike Paletta. Doesn’t matter how long you’re in the game. ;)

The tank basically said...”welcome back!”

I see why you drilled your sump now. Why are companies still making tanks with the column overflows and sumps that accommodate one stand pipe? Such a waste of valuable real estate, plus it impairs the flow in your tank.
Yeah, great question! You’d think people would lean by now. :)

I’ll have the silt cleaned up by tonight. I’ve already had it clear 3x, but stirred the sand up to get it all out. Thank you 10 micron felt socks!

What, no bottle method for adding sand? By far the only way to add sand to a tank. Reduces the silt to basically nothing.

What’s the bottle method? I was gonna rinse it, but I know the power of the 10 micron socks.:)

This more or less illustrates the method in action. Use a funnel with s light flow from the sink to load each bottle. Use your hand to cover it then remove it under water. About the time all the sand is gone, cover it up again and remove the bottle. As gravity pulls the sand out of the bottle, it creates suction inside the bottle, thus pulling the sediment and the original water in the bottle back into the bottle.

Look at page 13 of my build thread. Those pictures were taken within maybe 30 minutes of adding the sand. Make sure that the bottle opening is the same as a 20oz bottle. If it's too big, then suction isn't great enough to keep pall the silt in the bottle.

I use 10 micron felt socks. I’ve been reefing for years and just recently discovered this. Works like a champ. I can add a 6” sandbed of sugar fine sand and clear the entire water column in 6 hours.

Working through the night to get it set up, and immediately stocking it with fish - what is this, an episode of "Tanked"?

Just messing with you. It's good to see it up and running, and I'm glad you went with sand.
Thx! Yeah...I really struggled with going to sand. At the end of the day I’m a hobbiest- Not a wholesaler. :) So it just makes sense and I personally hate the look of BB reef tanks. There’s not light reflection either and I hate that.
