The shrimps are definately cool. They spawn at least once a month. And of course no shrimp olection would be complete without your scarlets, peppermints, coral banded, pistols, sarons, and fires. I'm gonna have to do a seperate tank for the peacock mantis. See that one at City pets?

Nice shots Tom,

the shrimp pix rock. The green polyp Acro is trippin'. The size of the polyps blows my mind. That'll be sweet if you can get it to purple back up.

I'm glad to see another of our own has graduated to Master Level Reefer. Congratulations Quoc your tank is stunning.

Nice shirmps, forgot to tell you, we love them, but don't think we will do that for a while, what size tank do you have set up for the shrimp?

Also, if you want to test the purple and green in someone elses tank besides Kevin, we would house one for no charge to you.

Actually, it would fit right at home right now with our others that we got a little browned out that are getting their color back.

Twenty arms, what did you buy a whole colony? Sweet. Sorry to hear about the brown out, but sounds like you own your way back.

Great pix, Cool! If you'd like to learn more about underwater photography, I'd encourage you to attend the Houston Underwater Photo Society (www.hups.org) on Monday night. They meet at Bayland Community Center on Bissonet.

Cheers

shrimp online

I probably wouldn't have ordered them online, but with a 14 day guarantee or your money back, i couldn't resist. etropicals.com has the pederson and liveaquaria.com has most of the others. You can call them and ask for the items by name if you don't see it online.

Quoc is right, the staghorn does live in a live hydrocoral. As the coral grows, the crab maintains an opening just big enough to fit his larger claw. As it retreats, you can't even tell there's something inside because the whole opening is blocked off by a flat claw.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone.

Great pics, Tom! :)

I had 10 of those staghorn hermits and they didn't last long. For whatever reason, most abandoned their hydrocoral homes and moved into other vacant snail shells. Dunno why they weren't long-lived in my tank.

Great pics Tom!

My husband and I have decided to go the route you did with your shrimp tank...we have a 12 gallon Nano with nothing in it as of yet and had been taking about getting an invert tank ( pom pom crab ,sexy shrimp, staghorn hermit and anenome crab). We have always liked the Harlequin's as well but didn't know if htey could be kept with the others due to their size difference and their strict diet concerned us as to how to feed them ( cutting and letting arms regenerate... freezing arms ect.) We have a large sump for our reef tank and keeping stars for feeding is not a problem but how often do you offer feeders? Do you have a pair or just one??? They say they do better in pairs. I found a site that has most of the shrimp if anyone wants to go in on an order... I like the Bumblebee shrimp but would like to know if htey eat tube feet as well...I could not find any info on them but on on small site that said they eat starfish and urchin feet like the harlequins. The site is Jeffs exotic fish and they have great prices on Harlequins. I need to check Reef Central under vendor experiences first.

Cakepro- I've only had my hermit for about three weeks. So we'll have to see. So far I'm feeding it dry marine pellets. I remember Neptunes Garden had some purple ones that were out there for about a month. price was too high i suppose. $39

Imsuperjp- I try to feed on a schedule of one live star every three or four weeks. Or a week after they finish their last meal. Last time I let one go without a fresh starfish for 6 weeks and it died. I have the harlequin shrimp in a pair and it takes them appox 2 weeks to finish a three inch star. They will not share with the bumble bee shrimp so be sure to cut off a leg and place it near them. Frozen stars don't do as well because the process doesn't leave much left of the stars feet. The feet are really what the shrimps are after. Each feeding, it's usually a $10 chocolate chip or whatever I can find.

Robrog- I ordered from Jeff's twice. Once was a large order that I picked up from the airport. The other was fedex. Just be sure to order by phone. The website shows everything in stock. Usually not the case. Jeff took over a week trying to find my stuff from his supplier last time. Other than that he's o.k.. Subscribe to his fish club and ask for the club prices (email newsletter.)

are those the lobster similar to the one i got recently? since he told me he got one pretty big ~5" and he also said it doesn't mess w/ anything in his tk 8)
however, my brother told me yesterday that he saw the lobster reaching to the meat section of one of my clam. So far, the clam is still fine. If that lobster ever messes w/ my clams, there will be a boiled lobster tail dish - but a little expensive for $15 for less than an ounce of lobster tail :D

fishcraze, tommy said they are the same. his are so BIG. They are about the size of your hawkfish. And when he fed them, they come out to eat. They look pretty aggressive when it comes to eating. Good luck with yours!! He said they are hard to catch too.
