Let's justv say they really like meat. When they get big, their "reef safetyness" is like that of a flame angel. Mine will "test" sleeping fish to see if they want to get eaten or not. Swim if not, lay there and do nothing.....he'll take a bite. Great for cleaning up dieing fish and shrimp. They're gone before they make to the "dead" stage. :) Harmless to corals though.

Do they test snails the same way?

Unfortunatly, yes. I have seen them poke their forlegs into a snail or two. Usually the dead ones though. To me, they're more like scavengers. Not so much the hunting and killing type.

people say they can get up to a foot long. Biggest ine I had was 6 inches long from not counting antennaes. It'll extremely vulnerable during the molting process though. Nice squishy midnight snack for someone.

that 6" one was purchased big already. But judging from the growth rate of the two I have now....I'd guess eight months to a year depending on feeding. I started out with four babies. Only two have grown from one inch to the current size of 2 3/4 inches in 3 months. I wacthed one of them have a stroke for no reason and die. twitching like crazy for about a minute then flipped over on its back.

Alveopora, purple Montipora Monasteriata ( most people call them caps)
