r jay,
Are you running MH? Do you run any fans?

I just found a 36" sunpod and was so excited I just threw it onto my tank and fired it up.
Thinking the internal fan would keep the light cool... not thinking what would keep my tank cool. So no fans outside the light but not certain yet exactly how I want to set up fans. The tank is in the living room so I am limited as to the... AESTHETICS of what I add to the tank, lol.
I am trading a spare light for a 36" Nova extreme t5 fixture and want to see what my temperatures look like and maybe save the sunpod for winter months.

So I take it you don't have a canopy? Blowing fans across the surface of your sump will help as well.

The T5 swap will probably help the most though.

The 4 icecap driven T5's in my canopy are cooled by three downward firing stealth PC fans. Mainly because they are overdriven and the cooler the bulbs the longer they last.

Yeah Llama, I figured out that if you want to see Nicky's pictures like the one quoted above, you must be logged into reffcentral.com. This is because reefcentral won't show linked pics unless you are a registered member.

The effort is worthwhile because Nicky has a very nice system. :D

Wow, very nice tank Nick love the overflow on the side!
Mike, I got the T5's running and the temp's dropped, I do miss the shimmer though but maybe if I can convince the wife to let me keep the sunpod it will be my winter light, lol... yeah right.

here's my 65 gallon tank with tons of tiny frags of sps all over. My GBTA LOVES the t5's much more than the MH and it's only been 2 hours!

thanks r_jay. I have 2 fans in the canopy and 1 fan in the stand. My temp stay at 80 to 81 deg. My ambient temp is 79. I ran t-5 for a while but like everyone saids, I miss the shimmer, so this tank has 2/ 250 radium with 2 60wt t-5 actinics. Love the color and the shimmer.

ok fans +1 I found an extra one and put it on my sump. I figured to keep in the spirit of this thread I should post a picture of my tank, as embarrassing as it is right now but give me a year and it's gonna be sweet! I may gut the sunpod and nova pro to install a hybrid canopy... in my dreams.

System looks to be coming along nicely r jay. Give it time. :)

Regarding shimmer, I get that with a healthy amount of led moonlighting. :)

nothing, just pickling lime, no reactors...i'm patient and after the crash last year with all the Bryopsis and redoing everything back in Nov. I really haven't added more fish just trying to go really slow as you can see i only have about 5 fish the Tang being the largest.

This was my tank when I was still in Austin. Everything grew out a bunch after this photo......then I got transfered to Houston. Most of this stuff is in my buddy's 500 gallon waiting for me to set up my BIG tank.

My signature has many more pictures... just added a bunch but too lazy to bring them over. :p  Nearly all of my livestock is from a MARSHian and/or a LFS, and started out iddy-biddy. I have a long way to go, but the I'm in no hurry. :)
