I'd leave them be for a few batches, let them get used to the routine of laying eggs. That way if something big changes like the removal of the rock, they might return to laying eggs faster somewhere else.

Yep, Dont take the rock out. They will most likely eat this batch (and the next couple batches for that matter). After a couple of batches you can try laying a tile (or claypot if you dont mind one in your display) next to where they lay to see if they will lay on those. After a few batches you will see what eggs are left turn dark (almost black). Thats when you know they are fertalized.

Great coloration on the Onyx man. Put me on the list for a couple of fry. :)

Question:
If you breed 2 Onyx like you did, will all the eggs become Onyx or will it be a luck of the draw on coloration?

They ate some of the eggs during the weekend.. I notice there some will left start turning black.. I don't see any fish eye yet from this batch.

it will take some time... I'm here with the syphon every night since this last weekend ready... eggs turn black haven't seen fish eyes yet..
Usually 6-8 days depending on your temp and lighting schedules
