Chris, when I can finally find the time to get over there, I'll bring a couple turbos with me. LOL! Maybe this weekend as I have to drive to Humble to drop off some stuff to a buddy up there. I'll bring that PP with me. No worries on the UC... I already got one from another buddy.
(Sweet coral though!)
Any way, looking at that algae on my computer (vs. my phone) it's really not that bad. There's a couple of things you can do to help get rid of it.
1. As stated, larger CUC. When I run a reef like you seem to have, I'm not concerned with hermits. They do a great job, but will take out smaller snails for their shells. Just keep that in mind.
2. Raise the magnesium level to 1500+ for a bit.
3. Run carbon/GFO. I always run GFO, in the least. 75% of the time, I'd say.
4. Vacuum out as much visible detritus as you can and blow the rocks off with a "turkey baster"-like tool. Do this daily.
5. Isolate your nutrient export more efficiently through the sump. Slow the flow down, and let your macro catch up to your system.
6. Often overlooked is UV and O3 benefits to the tank. I have both connected to my system, but the UV is more than enough right now.
7. 10-15% water changes weekly until it subsides.
The quickest way is to increase your CUC population in there. You'll watch it all dwindle away, daily. I have a sea slug that mows the stuff down, as well as a variety of different snails. When the algae slowed in production, I simply removed some of the CUC and gave them to a friend, or put them in another system.
Just stay on it and it will pay you back be being the system you have pictured in your mind, in no time!
