Down day for the upgrade. My neck is held together with screws and whatnot so some of this stuff puts me down for a day.

Checked out the sump a bit more, beautiful work on that thing. There’s a removable partition to open the middle chamber up or have two discrete chambers and the BK ain’t fittin in there. I like a true refuge in my tanks so I’m not sure what to do about it yet, got some time before it’s too important. RX I guess.

Unboxed the Aquatic Life hybrid fixture. I’m not very impressed. I’ll take pictures tomorrow but I kept thinking to myself it reminded me of a fluorescent shop light. My last fixture like this was one of the original Photons T5/MH, maybe I’m spoiled. That thing was built like a tank. I digress.

I’m mounting the four Radion Xr30s in it this AL this weekend. I’ll be happy to return to a suspended fixture.

USPS crushed my T5’s so that has to wait as well.

Anyone order one of these rimless tank lid, net combos? Clear view is the one I was looking at.

Ordered a Clearview Lid. I hope my wife never see this thread.

Here’s some detail on the Aquatic Life Hybrid fixture(hybrid means you can strap your own leds in this).

Not super impressed by the fixture itself but I guess the price point ($450) isn’t as bad as it could be. (There’s still protective film on reflectors)

You are strapping anywhere from $500-2000 worth of LEDs so I was hoping for a bit more than these cheap push in end caps.

These drain fittings are really slick. My only problems with them are maybe overthinking them.

They are undoubtedly imported (40mm), the bulkhead fittings are unlike any I’ve ever seen.

This is actually the return but the idea is the same. The male threaded fitting on the right goes through your opening and you screw down the female on the left. There’s a recessed silicone o ring on the female that really becomes your primary water seal.

I was going to start to fill tonight but I still need to figure out where in the heck I’m putting the Radion Ballasts. Possibly on the back of stand? I’d like to keep the bottom left stand compartment open for Apex etc.

For some reason there’s isn’t a 61” DX18.

There’s a 61” AL fixture at brs that sells for $550 and change that may be dimmable, it’s clearly a different model than this one.

Near as I can tell tho they don’t sell anything that has nicer features, just dimmable.

Now the Gieseman stellar is a bit more nice but it’s also $600.

This AL is $400 on sale.

Shoulda called reef lounge

Yes that is right. I forgot about that. You could do 2x 36” fixtures, but you’ll probably pay more especially in bulbs.

That Giesemann fixture is nice. Might wanna send this one back if the quality isn’t there and bite the bullet. Hopefully the wife will understand that this is the last tank! Haha.

I also have that aquatic life fixture and I like it so far. Don't know if there is a notable difference between T5 fixtures as far as output and light. The light comes from the Bulbs so as long as the fixture has enough firing power do kickstart the tubes and decent reflectors, it should be the pretty identical. Considering that it will be supplemented (or vice versa) by LED's it should be of nominal consideration. The thing it has going for it are decent light reflectors, clean integration with LED, NO noisy fans, decent price. Dimmable T5's on the other hand, don't have the best rep as they supposedly wear out the bulbs pretty quickly thus leading to a significant increase in ownership cost.

wonder how much just the top box with nothing else would be? My g5’s are spilling too much light so I’ve been contemplating building some sort of canopy like that or what the BRS 160 has over it.

guess Il be calling them today to ask.

It’s funny, but every time I look at your avatar, @kris4647 , it throws me off... when you’re the OP, the only face I see is your wife’s, lol. I keep thinking, “Cool! Another she-reefer!” LOL

Hmm, if anyone really gets inspired by that video, I may have to resurrect my failed for-sale thread from four years ago. I have an actuator with rails and 80/20 arms designed to do just that. For those of you who remember Sergio, it was on his tank.
