Don't worry J it will be all good.
Ppl are so anal in this hobby and because of it they create many fail-saves.
It's just a seal and aqueon is strong enough for that.

A few days ago I did discussed how this 8000 gallon pool made from just a liner which cost less than just the glass we make tanks from and with a bunch of wild kids jumping around will be ok..............
We laughed and thought about our little bitty tiny 200 gallon tanks, just saying

Aqueon, said they do not use GE silicone, turned out they were using Momentive RTV100 series (formerly GE.) Publicly they claim to be using their branded silicone to build their large tanks, (on the label) buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz wrong.

I would not use aqueon silicone for a few reasons:

1. They lied
2. "Their brand" is unpublished - no info as to what the PSI, Peel, and Tensil strength are. You already know when things are "unpublished" it typically means the company is not proud. It's probably low grade junk! Otherwise the data sheets would be out there with the rest of the higher end sealants.
3. I don't trust them.

You've been warned!

If you find the public MSDS please post it here. I'm not interested in what they have told anybody over the phone.

Anything over 75/G there's only 2 sealants I trust.

1. Momentive 100 Series (RTV 108)
2. GE SCS1200 Series

Aqueon is about 20$ per tube. I got the rtv online for about 12 or 13$

Grainger had it for about 20, if you need it now. Wishing you the best of luck tho.

The reason why anybody buys aqueon silicone, is because it says aquarium safe. The same reason why everybody "thinks" GE 1 window and door is reef safe, but everything else will kill your tank.

ALL SILICONES ARE REEF SAFE AFTER FULLY CURED. Let me repeat for anybody that wants to challenge that statement.

ALL SILICONES ARE REEF SAFE AFTER FULLY CURED.

There has NEVER been any evidence proving otherwise.

I'll be building my next sump "on video" with GE II!!!!

Now....somebody behind their computer screen is going...."OMG honey...Reefahholic just said he's gonna build his next sump with GE II!!" "He's gonna kill all his coral"

Well I purchased 6 tubes of ge I clear, not sure if it is enough. I had purchased 2 tubes of the aqueon silicone (I got it for 10 or 11 a tube) for the exact reason you said it said it was "aquarium safe." I do not know when my aqueon silicone expires. Have to read it when I get the chance pretty sure I bought it a year ago. If it is expired I will put it around the windows of the house! LOL

How can you tell when silicone has "gone bad?" is it just an expiration date, something to look out for, or just one of those weird things you don't know till it is till too late?

I fixed a 180/G a while back for BAO. Well...I say fixed... I actually rebuilt the whole tank. We ran into some bad silicone. I think it was expired or kept in high temps. Anyway, the black RTV was turning a blue color and it was extremely hard to work with. Other than that, I'm not really sure how to know if it's gone bad. If it's expired, I'd only build a sump with it.

Thanks Jared I will use the Aqueon silicone on the house windows and door seems. There is always a use for silicone! I only have the 2 since I was able to cancel the order in time!

It is doable, but I would suggest try on a smaller one first. I have a 40g breeder you can have to practice on. The silicon will skin in 10 minutes. You have 10 min from when the first bit comes out to finished. You also need a flat surface. Not just kinda flat. It needs to be perfect. When you buy glass it does get expensive. These glass companies won't mess with oddball orders unless they make a nice profit.

Okay I figure I would give everyone a good laugh. Today we picked up a stand that was free! :) So naturally I rolled out some of the plastic (you know the kind you can line your cabinets with. It had some water damage on top and the last thing it needs is any more water on it) my gosh glad I did amazing how much water gets splashed here and there, or maybe I am just MESSY.

Anyhow in order to get out the tank that was going to be a slump I had to get everything out of it and under the other tank so stuff was everywhere is an understatement. (it is amazying how much someone can stack in an under the tank cabinet!) Anyhow I hear my husband talking to the kid's godfather and someone asked something. Then I heard my husband say, "You said the stand was just temporary, right?" I was like "yes just until I can get the tank fixed and ready" I don't know what was funnier hearing the godfather laughing or my husband groaning!

Anyhow learned I messed up again. I had put some plants in the tank and I figure why not put the stuff that came with the saltwater tank that I had so painstakingly cleaned just some of it little by little. Run to the store to get a lid because what is splashing and while I am there a guy goes does it look like "this" points to crushed coral or that "a" starting word. Anyhow I was like yea. He was like you want to get that out or you will be raising your ph. I was like NO. He was like well you can always raise cichlids. I was like No, I want peaceful little schooling fish. So I went home and did my best to get almost all of it out maybe 1/4 cup is left in there. Anyone know if I need to remove every ounce of that stuff? Is it weird to have a tank with nothing but a few plants in it? Was also worried about the fact there are no fish in there to pee and such so I rememberd the frozen brime shrimp. If people can use dead frozen raw seafood in a saltwater to get the life cycle going why couldn't I use that?

Was suggested by the guy at the store that I just raise the plants in pots till I am ready to put them in the bigger tank. Anyone know where one can find those type of pots or something that is aquarium safe? I have been watching you tube videos till I was blue in the face and realized I hadn't eaten dinner.

So many people say one thing and so many say another. One could go crazy.

Hopefully I don't sunburn the poor little plants I figure I have old coral lights surely they are strong enough for the plants to thrive. Maybe some coffee filters and gravel and some aquarium dirt to make "make shift pots?" Not sure when I can get to it though and diffidently have to get the gravel and dirt. (I made mistake using my dad's rocks he picked up off the beach in WA and tumbled in and polished my last tank. Don't know how long it was before I realized that it was causing my ph to constantly rise before that tank bit the dust and leaked.

Anyways tomorrow's to do list. "CLEAN HOUSE" Should be interesting with the take everyone to work to do list mixing in with the hubby trying to see what all is wrong with the old car. Not to mention the flowerbeds are in desperate need of weeding.
