I like it. I was worried it was not going to look good but it came out looking like it was made for it.

I added the curve 7 last night. It's overflowing out the top of the collection cup. I understand this may be normal for a new skimmer. Any thoughts?

I have some serious algae going on as well. I'm ready for the skimmer to be productive.

I would not worry about the algae. Your tank is new and this is part of the process

The foam seems to white, it takes time to tune it right. I'm a super noob and took me like 4-5 months to finally get the right setting. Now my skimmer pulls sludge out.

Your foam is pretty white which means not a lot of organic gunk in the water column yet. If you only have one fish in your tank there is hardly any bioload on your tank. The chaeto in your fuge will help get nitrates down and as you add fish and coral. Slowly of course the skimmer will start to work itself out

So my Chaeto does not appear to be doing very good. It has been in the sump for about two weeks and does not appear to have frown at all. I have noticed that there are a lot of small strands which have fallen of resting on the bottom or the sump like it is shedding. I have also noticed there are parts of it that appear to be melting. It almost looks like it is not very healthy. Any ideas of what may be going on?

It's a grow light from home depot.

I took out the Chaeto and it fell to pieces as I pulled it out.

What are the specs on the grow light. How much flow was the chaeto seeing. You don't want a cheap light source for your chaeto

A new skimmer can be frustrating but I have read in several places that a vinegar/water bath can speed the process. Also it may help to have it on a setting that it doesn't overflow on(if it will to do that this stage) I've simply un plugged and then plugged it back in before and it fixed itself (???) probably a freak type of thing though. As far as your chaeto I would say YES it is dying probably most likely due to the tank not having excess nutrients for it to feed on (yet) but its possible other factors are at play. It appears that you have a heater in your sump with it possible that area of the sump holds heat more so than the rest of the system. And it looks like a Jaeger heater one that I know first hand has issues performing(10 degrees hotter than I've selected) use caution with these heaters. Also flow in the chamber seems like it would be stagnant at the bottom this would be a MAJOR issue for cheato. And lastly I've grown hordes of cheato with a $10 bulb and that stupid metal shroud thing that you could fry an egg on. Just my 2 cents :D.
