I know I might be a little late to this rodeo but I run two 20,000k metal halides and two Blue Pluses on my tank and had to add a Reef Brite Blue XHO fixture to get the color pop I was looking for. So just confirming what Reefahholic said about adding a Reef Brite. I really love that thing.

Thanks for adding that BRS video. You gotta love how they break everything down for you. Think I’m going with the kessil and the two bulb until I can afford the radion and then I’m going to add a hybrid T5 fixture that I can mount the radion to. Has anyone here used a hydrid fixture with a radion, kessil or AI prime?

Are you using the dongal and software app to control your kessils or just the dials?

Just the dial. Got it cranked all the way blue as far as it will go.

The app opens up a very wide variety of color options. A hybrid fixture would definitely provide more coverage and probably faster growth. If you’re just looking for a wider variety of color, you should get the dongal first and actually open up the full potential of what you have. IMHO

I’m assuming you’re using the a360x lights.

No the tank came with the 160 so I didn’t change it. It seems to be plenty powerful enough. Speaking to others about their 360 I’m told they have has to turn down the intensity. I actually turned down the intensity on the 160 because I thought it was too bright my zoas don’t seem to be reaching for the light source.

Shouldn’t they be changed out more often than that?
BRS investigated that and found that pretty much all the bulbs don’t start seeing a significant decrease in power or spectrum shift until the 18 month mark.

Damn I’ll have to pick up an actinic bulb later already ordered a couple blue + least that keeps me from wasting money on bulbs I’m not going to use

The actinics help for pop but they have about half the PAR as the other bulbs. Or at least the ATI actinics, which I personally tested.

It’s really fine as far as par I’m sure the kessil will make up for it just fine. This strictly for aesthetics.

Just paint the corals the color you want. I've been doing it for years and it's much easier and less stressful.

But on a serious note, once you start growing sps and they turn into colonies, the pop isn't all you're looking for. LEDs are great cannons, and T5s compliment them well and allow a good amount of light to get spread around. They help fill in the shadowed spots. Having said that, I would personally let parts of my colonies die if it meant getting a look that I'm happy to see everyday. That's the choice we all make.

I don’t like sps at all. I have one piece in the tank if it dies I’m done with it. I don’t know why I just really don’t care for sticks...
