Hello All, I'm looking for suggestions on how or if I should repair this missing section of trim. I had the missing piece but have some how lost it. This is on a 200 gallon and I haven't been able to find a replacement in this size. I'm ready to do a water test but have put it off for weeks because I'm scared of this corner.

I am sure that trim is not structural. I have a similar tank that had no trim along the bottom for over a year. Now it only has a thin wood strip along the front side only. It hasn't been a problem. Water test away!!!

I agree with Chris. The bottom outside trim is useless. You could always use wood or plastic if you want to re-trim it. You can brace the inside bottom if you're worried about structural issues. Have the glass cut at a glass shop. Glass should be same thickness as the tank. 3-4" braces will work fine. Good luck.

Does your tank glass touch the stand? I thought the bottom trim was a support since the bottom plate rest on the trim and never touched the stand. Thanks for the input

Yes The bottom pain sits directly on the stand. In my case, the stand bows just a hair so I have it shimmed every 4" in the center. I'll see if I can get a picture when I get home though I'm not sure it is visible now that I trimmed it.

I think you are correct on size of the glass. The pic makes the hole seem smaller. I can almost fit a finger under it.

I would not leave the existing trim on the tank. It needs to be all or none. Yah, that gap would be a problem and I assumed you would remove the existing trim.

I decided to cut a section off an old junk tank in the garage. It never crossed my mind till yesterday. It's not perfect but I think it will support that corner. I used a generous amount of silicone hoping that any discrepancy in size would be filled in when I set it in place. I'll post a pic later.

I'm not sure who put the tank on some trim that elevates the tank 1" in the air...that's crazy.

Looks like a dangerous DIY job honestly. Where did you get the tank? Do you know it's age and builder?

This is doubtful. My tank is an older Oceanic that had a similar trim. I didn't like the way it looked so I removed it.

No, I don't know the age or manufacturer. I have the exact same tank on the other side of the room and it was built the same way.

First one I got years ago from a member on here. I can't remember her name but they moved out of country. Second one I got from some guy in Humble months and months ago. I have no clue on the age. He redid the seals and decided to go another direction so he sold it. I bet your right about over ten years as I've had that one for just over 4 years and I don't remember how long she had it before me.

All glass tanks with trim are designed like this. The bottom trim does add support and elevates the glass bottom off the stand. Either remove the trim and set the tank on a sheet of insulation foam or replace the trim. You can euro brace the inside bottom like suggested also. Just don't leave that corner unsupported.

It's not perfect but I think it will work. I'm going to paint the whole front section so it might blend in better.

Foam under the tank is a heavily debated issue. You may want to read up on that to see which side of the fence you wanna be on.

As far as the plastic trim being supportive, you could say it's somewhat supportive in terms of adding extra security. As far as structural support, it's pretty slim. If the tank is going to fail from poor craftsmanship, those panels will blow right out of the plastic trim.

Be careful buying any tank that's had a full reseal on an actual panel. Dangerous!
