I had dino in my nano and raised the temperature to 82 after everything else failed. Surprisingly, it worked. Thank you Google. Then I did more research on the topic on Reef2Reef. There seems to be a strong argument that a lot of our corals and fish thrive in warmer water. I'm thinking of increasing my display from 78 - 80 and monitor for growth. Curious to know what y'all are running your tank at. I know the consensus is 78, but I want to see if anyone has successfully run a mixed reef at lower or higher temperature.

I keep mine at 79. That said, of all the dive trips I've done in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, I've never seen the water colder than 80. Seems like the average is around 82 to 83. The warmest I've seen was in the Maldives and that was 86. And sadly there was massive bleaching going on while we were there. But that was in 2016 when the water temp went crazy around the entire globe.

So far running my nano at 82 hasn't affected my clowns or anemones. No other corals, hence the hesitation. I'm leaning towards running my display at 80 and monitor.

I'm using T5s as the main lighting source and get up around 82 during the day if I don't have a fan running.

Heaters will kick on at 78.5

How long have you ran your tank at 82? Pic of tank inhabitants?

Probably their heater thermostat malfunctioned and killed everything :(

I hope not, but I hear that far too often.
That's a possibility. Titanium is the way to go.

Higher temp also shortens the ick life cycle :)

I keep my heater in the sump so I have it set higher to account for a few degree temp drop up in the main tank. Having a long shallow tank with alot of surface area i lose heat a little quicker than deeper tanks. So Im set at 82, but my main tank runs steady at 79.

Okay, I'm not crazy than. I got Deanna's stamp of approval 😂 I'm going to slowly raise it to 82 in the next few weeks.

My tank is usually in the 75-76 range. Heater comes on at 75. Never really thought about, it’s been running 10 years at that temp.
Very interesting. You're on the low end of the spectrum. Can you post a pic of your tank inhabitants?
