Thanks guys! Its going to be a beauty when it colonizes.

darrin, the difference between the Oregon Blue Tort and the Cali Blue Tort is a lot. The Cali Tort grows VERY fast and doesnt have the deep blue color to it. The Cali tort also branch's out more. The Cali Tort is the same as the ORA tort. Sometimes the Cali tort will turn purple. With the Oregon, you are guaranteed the deep blue no matter what. VERY SLOW GROWER Though. but once it colonizes, it will speed up. They say it takes about a yr for you to see good growth on the Oregon Blue Tort.

There are also other torts like the SB tort which Naka has. He knows im after it because it has a nice deep blue to it too. BUT, this species reminds me of the Austera. The Yellow Tort (Miyagi) and Purple Tort are Austera's. The Austera family has VERY nice deep colors thats why its mistaken to the Oregon tort. Oh, and I feel that the Oregon tort is not really a tortuosa. Its something else that hasnt been positively identified. The name just got stuck as everyone knows what it is.

James, very slow for now. :)

Yea the tort I had a few years back was a little more spindley, and was more of a teal/skyblue color, but solid throughout the flesh - real deep. Was definitely a slow grower, though. Only put on about 8" in 2.5 years. Man, I miss that guy.

Hey Edward, I'm gonna have to steal that Oregon tort from you.
Here's my ORA tort, you can see the 2nd branch growing out.

And my SB tort 3 months ago. (very slow growing)
I caught Kevin trying to steal this tort from my tank last week. :)
I personally like the SB tort better, but you know how I feel about Mr. Miyagi. :D

I got an oregon tortuosa about 6 weeks ago and the frag was about 4" tall. It had 1 branch starting out and I traded that to Steve Jaap. My oregon tortuosa has already healed and it growing a new branch in it's spot. My point is to me this is extremely fast growth for this specific coral. I am about shocked to be truthful. I'm hoping I do have the 1 fast grower of the oregon tortuosa.

My cali tortuosa is nothing like my ORA tortuosa. The 2 look completely different in growth form, coloration, and polyp detail. My cali came from Alex through exoticreefs and is a deep midnight blue, my ORA from a sps buddy and is a fleshy polyped and is not as deep blue as the cali, and the oregon from Jim Huang. My cali is super slow and my ORA is super fast in growing and has put out easily 6-8 branches and it seems my oregon is going to be a fairly fast grower.

Here is a picture from fragfarmers.com that shows the "Cali" Tort. it looks more like an Austera than a Tortuosa. Now, the SB Tort that Naka posted (2nd pic) looks identical to a Tortuosa. Here are the pics both from fargfarmers and Coral search:

It was always my impression that the SB and the Cali torts were the same. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but provide proof.

The tort I got from Sue is doing well(thanks Sue!!). The blue is more intense than my Cali.

I also have the yellow tort(austera) with pink tips. Also got this from my buddy, Sue!!

Steve,

No, its the other way around. The ORA is the same as the Cali. You can tell by the color. The color isnt as strong. Naka posted a pic of his SB frag and its not the same color as the Cali/ORA. The Cali/Ora also has the green hue tint to it on its body. What confuses people even more is them calling everything they see a tort now. ;)

Here's a pic of ORA's purple tort. From the pics of Coral Search, which does it look closer to you.. an Austera or Tortuosa?

This if from Dustin's website (ORA):

Here's my purple tort when it was really purple.. see the green hue tint to it. This one isnt from ORA, but some guy in Cali. And the second pic is my blue Austera frag that also resembles the color deepness of the torts. I aslo have the yellow Austera. :)

My ORA and "cali" tortuosa are as different as night and day. They have been since the day I got either of them. They are different in color and growth form. My cali tortuosa that came from ROAB aka Alex through John at Exoticreefs is a deep rich, midnight blue. My ORA has not a single bit of green hint, hue or whatever to it but it sure isn't purple either. It is a nice deep blue with same colored polyps.

There was a "tortuosa" thread on reefsanctuaries a while back and we had quite a nice, enjoyable thread about everyone's tortuosa frags, colonies etc. The pic from Dustin's stock actually doesn't look like my ORA tortuosa either.

Hey Steve!!!!

I don't consider myself confused either. :D
