with the bubbles, a lot of times it can be as simple as new plumbing. Until the new pipes are "broken in," you can get a lot of bubbles. See how it does over the next couple weeks before taking much more drastic action. Hopefully it will just go away on its own.

It was gone the moment I turned on the new pump. Problem solved and cash expenditure was under $30 bucks which still keeps me well under $2500 total cost. I'm a cheapskate... err bargain hunter.

Thanks, I really expected it to cut the bubbles down but not get rid of them completely. I was happy to see the results. Another side effect to the new pump/plumbing is that the tank is very nearly silent now. I can actually hear water flow which has always been drowned out in the past by pump noise.

Yes it is a see through in wall. I took out a pony wall and arch and built a new divider between the dining area and family room. I got a Derasa clam today that I'm loving, but I need to figure out how to adjust the white balance and all that jazz on the camera so I can post some decent pictures.

Heat is my new enemy. I've had two thermometers giving me different readings the whole time my tank has been up so I decided to use a nice accurate digital food thermometer on the tank today. Wasn't I surprised when it read 85.3 degrees?!?! So....... that being said its time to install a couple of fans (thanks tmgrash) and install my bathroom vent fan into the system. It's always something, but at least I had the vent fan ready and tmgrash isn't going to need his two small fans with the new LED fixture. We will have to see how well this works. As long as I can get it down to around 80 I'll be satisfied.... 78 would be better though.

I bought 2 clip-on fan from Bed Bath & Beyond for $16each. Let me tell you it really works. I had the same problem but now my temp never break 80. I'm only using 1 fan instead of 2. It's beat not having to get a chiller.

I would have to agree with you there. In my mind for some reason.... anything at all beats having to get a chiller. I think I would drop 3k on LED's before I dropped several hundred for a chiller because I'd have to pay for that chiller every month in electricity.

Ok some updated pictures. I'm still messing around with the camera and software trying to figure out how to take a decent friggin picture, but I'll post some on here so you guys can laugh and/or comment on what I'm doing wrong. The choice is completely up to you. I have a couple of shots of the new Derasa clam that we just brought home on Thursday and even a couple of pictures of me inside the wall and on top of the tank connecting the vent fan thanks to my wife. I was asking for help and she wasn't answering... now I know why.

They seem to be out of focus and the colors just don't seem right to me. What do you think?

I think the softness is probably because of shooting through the glass at an angle. It creates that "whoa, I just got new glasses" effect :) Also check the shutterspeeds - if they are below 1/60th you can get bluriness too.

Great setup - I wish I had a vent fan like that.

Cheers

I got the clam from Kevin at All About Fish. I'll have to check the shutter speed and watch what angle I'm shooting from. Thanks for the tips.

Powerheads and Anemones don't mix. Last night while I was driving home from work and talking to my wife on the phone she mentioned that she couldnt find the anemone. I didn't think anything of it since the nem had been moving the day before to find a "happy place" in the tank. Then nearly an hour into the drive she casually mentioned that my skimmer had gone ballistic and I needed to clean it out. You know what that means as well as I do. I walked in the door to Quadricolor soup. Any tips or tricks you guys can share about how to keep them out of your powerheads? This is the 3rd one that we have gone through and I'm getting sick and tired of replacing the dang things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Man, what a bummer - sorry to hear about your loss! First, I think you need to find why your anemones are roaming so much. An E quad typically will like to find a place w/ medium light, and a place where it can get its foot way back in a crevice. Typically they want a DEEP crevice.

If the anemone goes walk-about it's usually because something isn't to its liking - either water flow, attachment type, or light level. Or sometimes it can be that it's being irritated too much by a big clownfish. Do you have one of those?

Cheers and hope this helps,
James

I'm not sure if you'd call the clownfish big... but it is certainly a pain in the butt to the anemone. I currently have 2 mini anemones trying to make it in the tank and one of them is unknown to the clown so it may not be a total loss, but I really just need to get a bigger one to begin with I think. Thanks for the info, this clown is starting to get costly. This is the 3rd e quad that it has driven nuts.
