Yesterday...spanked the trout and lost a PB trout at the rocks. I’m guessing he was near 30”. He just came unhooked. I thought it was a red for the first 4 runs until he broke the surface and I saw the yellow inside his mouth and the purple sheen. Then I caught this pretty little guy.

Notice the LT vs RT side. :)

Shoot,..I need to go fishing with you. I went out Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and caught nothing but seaweed.

I’ve been fishing with a 7” Little Joe bobber at about 7-8’ depth. Nobody around me with popping corks is catching much because they’re fishing about a 3’ depth. Too shallow. When I starting catching fish in the first 5 minutes of arriving...3-4 people immediately moved on top of me. I had pooping corks coming in from the LT and RT. Lol. The key is water depth when the bite is hard. For that you need a slip bobber pictured below:

Need a bead below the bobber (so you don’t tear up the bottom on the split shot) and I run one below the bobber stop bead as well. Those tiny beads are in the bobber stop pack.

You must use a bobber stop with these bobbers.

Then you wanna weight down the hook with a split shot.

Size 10 treble hook are slightly bigger.

The beauty of these slip corks is that you can fish 1’ or 50’ with them unlike traditional bobbers we grew up using (clip on). You are not limited to depth like you would be with a popping cork. The green bobber stops can be easily adjusted to any depth and can slide up and down the line, but are snug enough to stay put.

The real secret is to not make the bottom section too long because it will wrap around the top of your bobber/line when you cast. This will prevent the bait from reaching the appropriate depth. So from the split shot to the hook...that section needs to be very short. Like no longer than your 7” bobber. I also use a barrel swivel to prevent line twist.

So here’s the full rig step by step (how I’ve modified it) [will take pics later].

So...from bottom to top.
Treble hook- Split shot- Barrel swivel- Bead- Little Joe Bobber- Bead- Bobber stop bead- Bobber stop.

A friend of mine has a good video on this set up. He lives here in League City with me. I’ll post it below to help you better understand. (He doesn’t use the swivel but, since the video I believe he does now.

Another helpful video to understand why a lot of us use these slip bobbers:

Thanks for the advice Reefahholic. That's quite a bit to process right now. I'll definitely check out those videos and see about giving that a shot. I'm just a casual fisherman. So, I appreciate all the tips I can get.

It’s not really that hard. I gave a lot of details so that you can refer back to them.

If you wanna catch fish right now, they are out there heavy. Live Shrimp will almost always put a few in the cooler. Wink Wink.

$10 a pint = 30 or so shrimp. Been catching them on live shrimp every time I go. Good luck. :)

Hook them right under the horn between the eyes and the brain (dark spot).

I went to the beach last night and there was quite a bit of sargassum washing up. Any plans yet on the summer collection trip? I'm very eager to collect my first sargassum fish and hopefully a few seahorses.

I’m gonna tell you guys this. This is coming from a 30 year surfer of Galveston and all over this coast.

The water clarity right now is about as good as it gets! It will be very very clear tonight!

Enjoy your trip. It will be epic collecting conditions if this is your first time to go. Don’t miss it!
